Subnautica crash while leaving area of Grand Reef in a Seamoth

I am crashing when attempting to leave the Grand Reef zone after diving to just above 300m in a Seamoth. I leave one of the Grand Reef wrecks, and ascend towards the surface towards the Aurora and my life pod and home base, then as i get near the surface, the game crashes. Repeatedly saving the game and restarting and reloading from the save does not appear to help. The crash is repeatable for me.
3rd or 4th time loading the game to collect information on the crash seems to have worked, it let me continue playing past life pod 6 and return to my base, but frame rate stutters as terrain updates/loads, causing temporary freezing while I'm trying to pilot the Seamoth.
