<div class="IPBDescription">Someone set the record stright...</div> Alright, I am getting my computer upgraded tommarow with the stuff I got for Xmas. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> My brother says that the RAM I'm going to install will conflict with my previous RAM. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> Is this true? Depends on the type. SDRam and DDR can't mix.

    What about different manufacturers or stick sizes? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> (Like 512 mb or 256 mb...)

    Not sure about manufacturers, but I do know you can mix and match stick sizes. A few people I know have a 512 and a 256 stick in their PC.

    Manufacturers shouldn't be a problem. One of my ram sticks is made by Samsung and the other some foreign company which name slips my mind.

    Tyan?

    Shouldn't, but until we know what ram you had and what you bought we can't know for sure <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think the sizes can be mixed, manufactors might be able to mix. SDram and DDR CANT be mixed. I like to know if speeds can be mixed, if mobo can support them.

    Mobo and CPU, it will choose the smallest speed <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (If you put it a slower ram then you already have you will slow down your pc)

    Only if MOBO/CPU both support it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm pretty sure speeds can't be mixed, and I'm 90% sure that manufactures CAN be mixed.

    Yes they can, you can even buy a 3200 instead of a 2100 (highest your mobo/cpu supports) and the 3200 will only run at 2100 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Some motherboards allow you to mix diffrent sizes, but if you have a premade computer(dell, gateway, whatever) and it only has 2 slots then they both probably need to be that same size. Otherwise if you have 3 slots then you can probably mix sizes, but always put the bigger stick in the front slots(number 0 I think it usually is)

    Things like mixing size and manufacturer aren't an issue, because (thanks to IBM's unwitting generosity, but that's a whole long story) PC components are standardised. However, there are still different actual types of RAM, and they might not be compatible. The difference is in the way they work, and it's still standardised. Ie, each company doesn't make their own wacky kind of RAM incompatible with any other - I think there are two, maybe three, different kinds of RAM which lots of companies make, and you might have problems mixing these types.

    Either way, make sure that your motherboard can actually support the kind of RAM you want to get for it.

    if u say had

    1 stick of 256 mb ram.. from samsung.. 233 mhz

    and another 256 mb ram stick from w/e and it was 333 mhz..

    then the 333 faster ram would run at 233 to be inline with the other so you would lose performance in your ram thru that
