<div class="IPBDescription">4 all the other techno/trance forumfans</div> Hi guys!

As many of you may all know, Im pretty much what Infinitum is to anime as I am to the various styles of techno music. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> or the maybe the closest thing to it.

And I know there are more of you fellow music fans in NS than just myself so this thread is for you.

My disclaimer If you dont like techno: Thats fine! Just remember that there are many sub genres out there from artists from all over the world, from all cultures and all nations. And they all sound very much different so find one that fits you. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> And if you still dont like it, well like I said thats ok. Listen to what you like <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anywhoo I had to put that in there b/c the last 3 posts I made it always turned into a "your music sux debate" that got totaly off topic. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

now back to the post,

DJ Tiesto was named top DJ in the world (for the 2nd consecutive year) for 2003, big surpise huh? But yea he does kick lots of arse.
Knocking Paul Oakenfold and some other contenders down a notch,

So I was just wondering who you all thought should be top DJ for 2003.
(In reality I dont really know how they can pick one conisdering there are 11 types and as many as 26 sub genres of techno)

But it seems a trance style DJ won this year (which I agree with) His latest album just pwns

I would have liked to see my personal favorite ATB win but oh well.

Who were some of your favorite picks for 2003?

Oh yea and for all you peeps that listen to di.fm

there is a new e-station and music site comming up (site is still under construction but you can get a taste of how its gonna look)

Tiesto and Okenfold are good, but very commercial now

Westbam (i think thats how u spell it) German Underground
Axel Konrad - Miracle Maker... woo gold
Da Hool - meet her at the love parade, but that got played to death
    Dj Lithium

I'll re-edit my friend is a tekno god, he has like 300+ gigs of tekno (no joke)

Carl Cox jus generally kicks **** but I prefer harder more upbeat house techno from producers/DJ's like "The Tidy Boys", "Lisa Lashes", Scott Project" and "Yoji B" to name a few.

    DJ Dean all the way.

DJ Dean - Play it Hard(DJs @ Work Mix)

tiesto and oakenfold and whoever... I hate that kind of music. That's the genre that crap like "Sandstorm" comes from. It's like listening to Lite Jazz (elevator music) and putting some idiot who plays that above Parker or Gillespie or Coltrane. I think that that trance crap is too softcore and pansy and. ... ok.

    I'll retreat now

god i hate that song, for whatever reasons everyone in the US plays all the crappy stuff and then Over plays it to no end. Then everyone starts judging techno on stuff like sandstorm or opening rave theme song in Blade 1 lol and they think (not saying wendelkron does) that all techno is is some retpetitive, lacking all melody song with a bass beat.

other sub par examples that are over played in the US.
Eifel 65 "Blue" or Heaven by DJ Sammy.

I sugest you stop judging one genre by a bad example. There are crappy songs in every type of music lol listen to some good ones. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

"Let you go" or "Long Way Home" by ATB
or if you want something more not so "pansyish" as you put it,

"Never gonna Come back down" by BT
"Too many Times" by Kai Tracid
or anything by voodoo and serrano

or listen to a didffernt style itself.

Considering all the different styles sound completly and distinctly different.... listen to a trance song verses a hard house style song and if you cant tell the difference you must be deaf <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

PS and you do know that Paul Oakenfold does all types of music of all genres. Ready Steady Go, to the theme from Reqreum for a Dream "Zoo York", or the rap/R&V song Starry eyed Surprise. He style is all his own, <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well, I saw him live so I'm biased.
#1-Paul van Dyk, anyone? He mixes mostly other people's songs for his live shows, but his CDs are also excellent.

DJ Tiesto could be called commercial now, but who cares? He can get ANY crowd dancing, even a bunch of NS'ers at a convention. I'd be willing to bet money on that.

ATB-Excellent excellent stuff. ATB would be in my top 2 favorites

No fourth though... I guess Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones? I really can't say, honestly.

Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiesto... I've found all their songs way to boring for me. Anyone have any good suggestions by them? Because right now I don't think I'm missing out on anything.

All I listen to is Juno Reactor. They just pwn. But I cant really say my favourite DJ,
because the Juno one keeps changing all the time.

btw Paul Oakenfold + Elvis + winamp while NS = Ded skulks

    DJ sandstorm.

Because he doesn't only mix techno, but he is one of the few DJ's that can succesfully mix techno with hiphop and rock... and that's very hard.

    I haven't come further than mixing a few clubsongs, but I'm learning. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You're not. If you've heard one Paul Oakenfold track, you've heard them all.

As for the best DJ nomination, if I can only name one person, I'd say Hecate. Her own albums tend to fall a bit short, but her DJing is impressive. If I can extend the nomination to a group of persons, I'd say the Berlin breakcore scene. Anybody can mix 4/4 songs without a hitch (hey, even I do that), but making a flowing mix of songs in 7/8, 5/4 and 3/2 tempos requires some skill. Also, breakcore is rather more interesting than generic trance.

If we get in my kind of scene, I'd also like to suggest DJ Tom Harding, DJ Dana and DJ Clive King.

    Just download some of their mixes, hehe. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I woudlnt go so far as to say trance is like pop. maybe more like the "eurodance" songs do, but meh, As long as ATB and John Digweed don 't sound like Britney Spears im good.

When that day comes Ill have to go the nearest <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> and poke him with stick until he eats me. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
