Mine finally was able to login, and I participated in the Hardware survey for HL2(so they can optimize it for their current people the most), and I'm supposed to be in their top percentage in everything except for processor, and the only extra thing I don't have is Hyperthreading, so I'm gonna be ready for HL2

So could this just be a network usage problem?

That happened to me , had to reinstall steam , cant play now , heres why :
Recently we moved house and my isp shut down our main email account because it was for our old house adress, My main steam account is registered for that email and i cant acces it to validate the steam account, so i had to make a new one with the email they gave us for this adress but the cdkey is in use from my Main steam account , GG isp+steam
IINM, there's a way to change the email. You should be able to login under your old email, regardless of whether its valid, and switch it from in there.
BTW, my problem is fixed. Had to reinstall it.
