You may have to pay for it, but its only $40/?20... not much really.
Plus you get free updates for life AFAIK and it's alot faster to mesh with.

edit: i looked at the demo, pretty impressive, but its hard to find your way around with all those tools, and teh automesh is just for cheatin <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Create the amount of groups you think you'll need (i'll use 2 as an example)
Select the vertices you want for group one and assign them to the first group
Repeat for group 2
Create 2 materials
Select the same vertices as group 1 and assign them to material one.
Select the same vertices as group 2 and assign them to material two.
I hope that makes sense. Its simple, just think of materials as another type of group....
but you have to have select -> group checked..
Its basically an update to it but is not free anymore. It's simpler to use, has more features etc.
lith is the free never going to be updated again verion...
unwrap 3D is the "this is the best, and will be updated, but you have to pay for it) version.
