There is no doubt that Metroid Prime is going to win, all the console newbies go to it for FAQ's while most PC gamers tend to have their own particular favorite sites.
Half-Life is twice the game MP is though, just because it's on the PC. Add in the fact that the gameplay and multiplayer are better and Half-Life easily dominates it on my list.

well its simple, the more you get stuck (im basing this on walkthroughs and cheats only), the more you go to gamefaqs .: the majority of people will be noobs. im not saying i have never gotten stuck, but its statistics! its always right!
I enjoyed Prime so much more than I enjoyed HL, that's all it took for me to vote for Prime. Plus, Samus is hot, and I know for a fact that Prime 2 will come out some day =).

I don't really remember the Metroid AI annoying me any more than my first encounter with the HL AI. And I remember myfirst time against grunts and stuff in HL too... they sat on my grenades, stared at me blankly when I ran into the crowd of them and beat one of them in face (then they all ran away) and other such 'crowning moments'... lets not forget the scientists and barneys.
The metroid AI was more 'arcadey'. I wouldn't class it as bad ai as it was exactly as I expected. Metroid isn't a tactical shooter, heck it's not even an FPS at heart. It's an exploration game. Sure there's a lot of fighting but that's because it'd be pretty damn boring if you spent most of your time going through the labyrinthian levels unapposed =P
The HL AI is awesome on hard. My main problem with metroid was the controls and story. It's not an FPS, no strafe joystick, autolock on with a button press(no need for aim here folks) no Multiplayer, a reallly really crappy story. An AI that makes me vomit in disgust. AND a crap load of running back and forth between areas for a long time facing dumb enemies that are no better than the first time you went through with easy jump "puzzles" and a couple guns. Woop de doo fun. I beat that game once with about 80% and then never picked it up again. FOr Half-life I've beaten multiple time, it took me twice as long to beat, it had a cool story which I am still discovering new things (like the G-man in different place), a 6-year old AI that is 3 times better than metroid, fully customizable controls, and a mod/multiplayer scene that IMO has yet to be surpassed. HL wins. Seriously MP didn't even get in gamespys title fight. HL won it.
you mean the same polls where diablo II stormed head past titles with actual gameplay until they realised people were cheating? Yeah... great thing to back an arguement with =P
Once again if you're complaining about metriod's AI then you're mistaking it for an FPS, same goes for any whines about the auto-lock system; it's not called counter-metriod, it's an exploration/platform game.
<b>edit:</b> on that subject what the heck were Valve smoking when they decided to put jumping puzzles (ala xen) in an FPS???
They were probably wanting the players to do something with the fact that Xen's gravity was lower. I remember the first time I played Xen, and I was like, WOAH! I can higher and farther!
But then I had to do these puzzles while being bombarded with energy stuff and it got very annoying.

I'll tell you one thing- One thing that seriously effected my vote was the save system. Metroid Prime DELETED my game when I got to the big...I want to say Dragon, thing. Its the queen Space Pirate. I got there- then it DELETED it for no reason, whatsoever.
So yeah, that brought it down about 70% for me. Then I also noticed the dismal A.I., and I just kept finding different problems in it. Maybe if they fixed the Save system we wouldn't be having this conversation of why it sucked otherwise.

I can tell you right now anyone who hasn't played Super Metroid will not enjoy Metroid Prime as much. The game is about exploration, not fighting. Yes you do have to fight to survive in this alien world, but it's all about the exploration. Metroid Prime was what I had expected... and wanted. Of coarse, if Super Metroid hadn't been one of my all time favorite games I probably wouldn't have liked Prime as much. I didn't have a problem with the AI at all. Yes they weren't tactical fighters that would take cover etc, but they were done in a Metroid style, and the enemies that counted (such as the bosses) had perfectly fine AI.
And on also, HALF-LIFE (not its mods), was long and drawn out. I got pretty bored spending 90% of a game trying to escape from some base. Metroid Prime on the other hand I enjoyed much more because I was exploring through a beautiful world that was basically a 3D version of one of my all time favorite games.

I'd take a wild guess that it has more to do with the popularity of PS2 compared to Xbox, than the quality of the game. If you own a PS2 you have probably played FFX. The Pirates and the boss fights never smacked to me of poor A.I., in fact they never did anything stupid and gave me a run for my money in many places.
Now, care to explain where you got "Poor A.I." from? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Thats exactly where I hated it. Heres poor A.I.:
I'm on a ledge high above a space Pirate guy(late game). I see him, charge a shot, shoot him. He takes a few blasts at me, and I duck behind the thing I'm standing on. Then, while I'm locked on him, I just keep going in and back of the place I shot him at before, him eventually dying. All he did was sidestep. He didn't take cover, he didn't get to any place of speciality(even though he easily could), he just kept sidestepping.
Example #2: Same room, but I'm on the ground with him. I continually dart back and forth from my own cover to shoot him, and every time I come out, he sidesteps my shot, into volcano magma, hurting him, and my shot hitting him.
To be honest, they all have to do with me using cover- every time I did, it seemed to do the same thing, which was pretty damned stupid. THATS where my AI thing came. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, can't say I ever noticed such average A.I.
Of course, that's beside the point. Prime was never about good A.I., or even fighting enemies. It's the exploration, the beauty of the environment and the conquering of a large problem that threatens millions of innocent dudes and dudettes. It's about solving puzzles, earning tasty upgrades to progress and generally rolling, tumbling, swinging and swimming your way through an artistically beautiful world.
Most of all it's about having fun, and by sweet Moses I did. Sorry if you didn't. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Oh hell yeah, that was fun, like the first time I saw the snow Area- I honestly went "Wow". But after I've backtracked through the area I first started in for the 13th time, it REALLY gets annoying, and I had to keep looking for things that were good in it, and I lost them.
If I remember correctly, the AI isn't different in any of the difficulties. They just take more shots, and you take less.
Indeed. Shenmue owns FFX anyday.
