stupid doctor.. stupid shot :X
Gah. I hate doctors. I've had an ingrown toe nail for about a year now and I finally got around to going to see the stupid doctor on campus. So his solution is stab me with a (#*&ing needle that hurts like hell and start cutting skin. And so now my toe hurts way way worse than it ever did before...

And the needle... I'm going to have nightmares about that needle...

Was the needle in the toe?

I know someone who had an accident and his toe nail was hanging off (apparantly you could see the nerve hanging onto it, lovely ) and he had to get an injection into where the toe nail used to be. Very painful but he recovered quite soon.

Question: What is it that causes ingrown nails? I know someone who has an ingrown hair but thats it really ^^

EDIT: Yep, I know a lot of people

When my cousin Carl joined the Navy, he too
had an in-grown toe-nail. They send him down
to the Doc's during his 8 weeks training. if he
didn't go then he'd be kicked off the training and
never stand a chance of joining the Navy.
Anyways, he went to the Doc's and she, quite literally,
ripped it out with these huge pliers.
He rang me the day it was done, and when I asked
"Did it hurt?" he swore more than i've ever heard him
do so....ever.

I had a huge fking blister under my big toe today. As soon as I came home I grabbed a knife and a litte glass. Having my toe above the glass, I pushed to knife in the blister going under the skin, pushing it more causing it to come out at the other side. Then put a sissor through and cut the skin. Wee!!

yeah, I've had a few in grown toe nails.

In fact, I'm recovering from an operation now, had it fixed (permanently) 2 weeks ago. The doctor this time was better about it but the numbing agent was.... less effective. Really hurt, he said that the nail (which was a cm long spike) was forming a tunnel through the tissue and that he hadn't seen that in a very long time. After he did a bit of cutting, etc., he used a chemical to kill the root so it won't happen again.

I had ingrown toenails on both my toes...

stupid doc didnt wait till it was numb to rip them out
i sat up off the gurney... asdf

then they dipped some cotton balls in phenol, to ablate the nailbed, so they would never grow back... it wasnt numb for that either, and it burned like battery acid.

so now, what happens? no ingrown toenail, but i have two big toes that are totally numb, my brother drove over one in a car, and i didnt notice...AND a little bit of toenail is GROWING BACK...asdf

jeez, ingrown toenails are the absolute worst. i've had about 10 or so, all chronic...

it feels so good when they're taken out... except you have to soak your toe in epsom salt for a week (well, my doctor says to do that)

he put some chemical that was supposed to make it heal better and it turned my entire nail black... this was about a month ago... :o

btw he once took out the nail and put the acid in to kill the roots... and it didn't work... so the next time I went for that same nail, he put in a triple dose of the acid. i was numbed up but it ITCHES to this day! so wierd.

I have had two ingrown toe-nails surgically removed because they were so bad. Most of the time I let them go until they hurt or cut the skin, let me tell you, there is no easier way to get out of high-school gym then to show the teacher a blood soaked sock!

Well this was my first time to actually do anything about it, I had just had it for a whole year and kept hoping it would go away (there were a few times it almost did). I hate doctors.

As far as what causes it, in my case it was first letting the nail get too long w/o cutting it and then cutting it too short. So it started to grow into the skin and whatnot.

And for the record, now that the numbing thingy on my toe has worn off it hurts a lot worse now than before. :/

But god damn that shot hurt like a mother#$(er.
• BurrBurr Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9358Members
Mine werent caused by not cutting my toe-nail, it was caused by they way I walk apparently (its a genetic thing, they run in my family)
• GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
The shot shouldn't hurt too much... they normally use a fast evaporating liquid to cool the area as a numbing agent for the needle.

Why do you hate doctors though? My mother is a doctor... I like her quite a bit.

I've only had one ingrown toe nail, wasn't that bad. Except for the fact that I had PE the semester I got it.

Me: "Uuh coach I think maybe I should sit out from kick ball today, I got this nasty ingrown toe nail on my kicking foot..."

Coach: "Bah, just play son."

Me plays kickball.

Period ends, go to dressing room.

I tried once, I guess I hadn't eaten enoough of late or something, but my body hated the idea of losing blood so everything started to sound like it was coming out of a really bad speaker and get really dim, and a little numb, so they pulled it early.

Damnit.

I got an ingrown toenail from a habit that I have. One day, I looked at my left big toenail, and decided to split it in half with my fingernail. Bad idea. I didn't have anything to cut the sheared nail off, so I pulled on it and let it run down to the left.

A week later, it was a cesspool of pus, causing much antifun, because in PE we had just started Gymnastic routines.

I think I've remedied it by myself. What I do is, I take a thin needle-like object (usually a mechanical pencil) and slide it under the nail until it reaches the ingrown part. Then, I go on the other side of the nail by the flesh, and then I dig down and unearth the ingrown parts, which I cut off with my nail clippers. I just need that root-killing acid..
