It's good enough, I invited a friend over cause we have no school today, of coarse I babled a little incoherently over the release and he said NS wasn't worth caring about. I showed him the trailer and he said maybe NS would be good. As a tool to convert the masses it will do its job well.
i have the latest divx version and played the video in the divx player and windows media player and it skips exactly the same. however i have another NS divx video showing in-game particle editing, among other things, that seems perfectly smooth.
There is probably nothing wrong with your software/settings.
The frame skipping is a known part of the actual source footage. This just goes back to the method used to capture and record the in-game footage. We did the best we could with what we had in the limited time and resources we had to work on it. There is no need to worry. Gameplay is just as smooth as in normal HL or CS as supported by your hardware. Try not to nitpick on the little things like that. A lot of people worked very hard to bring you the trailer, and I don't even include myself (my part was small relative to the other contributors).
I forgot to add the most important thing.
Thank you, everyone, for all the positive reinforcement!

Thanks for ALL the work you've put into this!!! Your efforts look like they will pay off 100-fold!!!
The opening and very last scenes were just incredibly awesome/amazing/spectacular/not enough adjectives. The middle montage was a bit wild. I loved it, as I could recognize what was in the shots, but someone who has never played/followed the game might end up saying, "What the heck is going on there?"
Of course, this might be good, as they will download the game to see what the heck was going on.

"Looking at the NS news page, one can calculate the release of NS: The coding seems to be the slowest going, as it has the least amount of progress between 8/1/02 and 9/17/02, with an increase of only 4%, 92% to 96%. Thus, because we have another 4% to go, and it takes a month and a half to get 4% of the work done in coding, we still have another month an a half to go. Gear up for a Halloween release. I'm going as a skulk, how about you?" -- Posted by myself on September 20th, as a joke. Heh.
The animations on the FMV sequences were spectacular. Especially that last shot of the level 4.. damn good work, whoever did that.
I'm kinda wondering how they got those sequences.
Also, a lot of focus on the buildings and their animations. I gotta say that that shot of the marine climbing into the commanders Console reminded me of bf1942 (a good thing, the game has excellent graphics and animations).
that lv5 horn looks kinda funny though <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> I won't mention what came to my sick, perverted, demented mind.
two rawrs from one alien <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
I thought the trailer was very professionally done, it does its job and builds the tension throughout, and has an explosive ending.
There is only one thing on my mind, which just stood out a mile away - I noticed that the marines running animation reminded me of a Kangeroo leaping with knees high, anyone else notice it? :\
Also, if you look over the trailer more than once you tend to pickup some nice things, like the alien flying through the air attacking the marines - got shot mid-air from the shotgun and painted on the wall, Niiice! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

From a professional stand-point, I have two particular easily solved problems with the trailer. The radio noise in the beginning gets over-done. And the music resolves in the end with one chord. It should have been left unresolved and cut off immediately to let the tension continue.
Other than that, I'm very impressed with the work done. It's not often you see something this professional put out by mod developers.
OMG, I always thought of the onos being atleast chest height to a marine! But it's a F***ing ELEPHANT!!!! <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->

I thought the game footage was sweet to see in action rather then screenshots, but i thought that the video was kinda lacking. But they have been busy finishing the game up and setting up everything, so i guess i wont say anything more bad about it.
that said there is one thing I would change, the music for the gameplay footage was a little anti-climatic, after dramatic ending of the CG I would have gone right into music at its high point instead of starting at the beginging of a piece that slowly builds
You can hear the alien voice when they first enter the hall if you listen carefully it says "Eradicate the intruders". I like the video quite a bit. I used it to convert several of my doubtfull clan mates.

I'm also getting the skipping and choppiness...I'll take Monse's advice on that.
