<div class="IPBDescription">Progress thread</div> well, as some of you know i have a new ns map underway. conceptually it is an attempt to create four different evironments in one map.

the four sectors im going for are:

1. The administrative/ command and controll sector. the base textures will mae it look cold and sterile. the Marine Base starts in this sector. texture set: ns_remix graywall

2. The cargo/ materials handling sector. used but passable sector. the western most hive (inspection room) is in this sector. texture set ns2 wall_panel

3. Crews quarters. this sector will feel warm and comfortable. there will be a hive in teh mess hall or the attached kitchen. texture set: dont know yet

4. Environmental Systems. this will be perfect skulk country with lots of abmietn sound it will be dark and steamy. there is a hive in the turbine room. texture set: My new texture set.

i have not as yet written a back story.

The location is an asteroid base called Richmond.
Current progress:

    Wow. Just, wow.

One suggestion I have is to add vents betwwen the four section; I don't see any in the map. (I could be missing them. I'm not familiar with that type of diagram.)\

[EDIT] Spelling is difficult this late at night. Hope I got it right this time. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Looks like Environmental Systems could be a dangerous choke point.

Agreed. Env. Sys. should be connected to Crew Quarters like Crew Quarters is connected to the Cargo sector.

    EDIT: Clarification. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yeah, environmental ststems and crew quaters are supped to connect, stupid me. there will be hall way intpo the room labeled crews quarters.

so far i haven't added vents because i havent done any playtesting.im open to suggestions about where though.

    and now some new pictures:
the first from teh areas farthest south on the diagram.

Looks very nice. I like the style of the marine-spawn area. kinda film-noir'ish.

Hmm interessing texture use in "<i>the next is the the right of the ms</i>" screenshot, however the grey looks a little overstretched (could be the screenshot quality)

It does look like you use two different styles of texturing, can't really say from the screenshots if they work well together, but it is a very original style <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Looks great. I really like maps that take into account the function of a room when they texuter it... Some of the offical maps have very strange textures for the implied function.

I would love to see this when it is done!

Nice, third screenshot reminds me of a certain section of ns_ayumi....
And also, there's a bit of texture mis-alignment.

Last screenshot, I like how you tilted the glass pane instead of using the usual (and boring) plumb vertical.

Will say, though, it would be interesting to make the crater glass hallway breakeable, then put in a trigger_hurt in it to activate when the glass is broken, perhaps with doors to shut at each entrance. I mean if you DO break the glass protecting you from the vacuum of space, you suffer the consequences. Forseable problems: (1) entity usage and (2) perhaps cutting off a section of the map. Would be nice and a good interactive touch, though.

kolokol: the hallways vary in width the minimum being about 128. in the indusrial areas hallways are about 256wx196h

john_sheu: right now im just doing architecture but ill keep this in mind for later, could be intersting.

The Cheat, Plaguebearer: there should be a connection, oops teh red hall way should end in the green room below it.

Dragon_Mech: vents TBA, mostly once i give it a quick pt and people start going i cant get to x i need a vent

    --more to come--

Potential problem: surrounding that hive (in the last screenshot), there is almost *no* infestation whatsoever. Hrm...looks a bit too spic-n-span for an alien hive.
