GG MMO.
Eff that. Small tactical squad based games are awesome.
NS: Pricetag
Dosen't turn my crank :\
I certainly hope it isn't HL2... that doesn't turn MY crank. Might be kind of cool on the unreal engine.
That and the adaptive AI could definitely be put to VERY good use (as in the return of Babblers, anyone?), as could the high-range rendering and visual effects. Er.. so long as you own an ATi card and actually get the DX9 shaders, rather than the kludge nVidia cards will have to use. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Same with the cameras in-game.. it'd be relatively trivial on HL2 to give a pane on the Comm overview with all of his soldiers' views in a grid.
As well, HL2 would be the most *logical* move, given that coding/mapping/modelling/texturing for UT is completely different, meaning that the entire mod would have to be restarted from scratch. Ground zero. Un-frickin'-likely. While HL2 will apparently be very backward-friendly, if not outright compatible.
In any case, nothing is formally announced concerning any development or even planning of NS2. There's been thought given to it, and Flayra's been working toward getting the groundwork in place, but nothing has been started. Speculation is moot right now. Arguing for your favorite engine is moot, too. Besideswhich, at least from what I've heard in passing, NS2 may not be a mod. Rather, a standalone game licensing an engine.
/me goes off to Asian servers to finally tell them
But this big new system...I'm beginning to wonder....maybe it could be a new res system or an evolution system, or somethng like it.
But now, about NS2....well, I wonder where Cory went though....wasn't he the original concept artist?

I thought about a new wall-walking system for the skulk, with walljumping and such <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Cory, AFAIK, is still in full time employment at Stainless Steel Studios. Flayra is setting up a proper, bona fida development team. Cory obviously can't work for both <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Re: the new system, the fact Cageys involved would indicate its summat map based, perhaps linked maps or suchlike.

Can't be linked maps, that's pretty much VERY hard to implement....
Though it could be a brand new spanking particle system....that would be a rather good bet....but it could be a storable database thingy that's written into a txt file......
Can we hope for....MvM and AvA?

I totally agree. After having (NOT, smile) played through Half-Life 1 single player on the Half-Life 2 engine, it seems as if mods can either be ported easily, or directly, or both, lending themselves to NS2.
On the other hand, if NS2 is done from scratch, then that won't actually matter. But for that matter, Half-Life 2 is/will be the best platform for mods/licencees for quite some time. Unreal Engine 2 (Unreal 2, UT2K3, UT2K4) pales in comparison to Half-Life 2, and per-pixel engines (DooM 3, Unreal Engine 3.0) are just too demanding for general use in the next few years.
Anyhow, whatever engine is chosen for the licensing, I propose two facts:
1) It won't matter much to the gamer, as since NS2 is to be a retail product (So Flayra would seem to indicate), and not a mod, the engine will only determine the checklist-capabilities of the game
2) NS2 is going to rock, no matter WHAT engine is chosen.
That said, I'm cheering for HL2 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The MvM is a possibility as that the coding IS there. There were a few servers I played on that had co_morehuman, a CO map fo just marines. It wasn't much fun as that the weapons were highly over powered and late joiners had NO chance.
The "new system" sounds pretty interesting: what could change the way NS is played in a radical way?
Just my speculation. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
