Invision Boards Or Php Bulletin Boards

<div class="IPBDescription">Help me out here, if you will</div> I'm about to choose a forum that I will install on my future domain, but I can't decide which forum I'll use.

IB has some really nice mods, and I noticed PHPBB has some nice ones too, like File Attachments, View New Posts etc. - the stuff this IB forum uses.

At the moment my choice lands on Invision Boards, for it's already existing dark red style template.
I need a dark red one, and if I choose PHPBB, I'll have to recolour an existing one.
It's not really much work, but if I can save me the trouble of doing it, I will.

So if there's any reason why I should pick PHPBB instead, let me know.

Tell me the forum you'd pick, and if you have a reason, a why.

Thank you for taking time answering me. You'll be of great help.

I've been an admin on two Invision boards and was a short-term admin on one PHPBB board over the course of the past two years, and one big thing I've found is that the admin tools available on Invision are a helluva lot more powerful than the tools on PHPBB.

I've found that everything in IPB is just so much easier to configure. Based on the experience I've had with both IPB and PHPBB, I already know I'll never use anything but Invision. Maybe it's because I was using IPB long before I tried PHPBB, but I doubt it. Invision is simply better.

IBP is just so much sexier. It trumps PHPBB easily.

Invision Power Board all the way. I've used both of those as well as ubb (is that one even still around) and Invision kicks the living crap out of them all. I use IPB on the <a href='http://www.espionagemod.com/forums/' target='_blank'>Espionage Forums</a> and I am completely amazed by it. As Sycophant said, the admin tools are absolutely amazing.

Why only DOOMBoard is comparable to IPB. ;)
<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>DOOMBoard is a JSP based forum package I wrote last year for a school project. :P</span>

So yeah, go with IPB. You won't regret it. :)

No idea how big your boards will become, but if you assume high member counts, avoid PHP like the plague. We used to run on it, and it started to 'reinterpret' our user database once we had crossed the critical point of about 5000 members...

Erm... We ran into problems while using PHPBB - that's why we switched to Invision <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

(Edited to clarify - sorry for the confusion, and thanks to DOOM for pointing out why I shouldn't try to abbreviate abbreviations.)

I think he meant PHPBB, not PHP as a scripting language. At work we handle database stuff w/ PHP and MySQL that is a whole lot bigger database-wise than these forums will ever be, and it handles fine. So I'm pretty sure he meant PHPBB.

Thanks to everyone. I will go with Invision Boards, then.
