A Guide To Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">Vets, share your experience</div> As we all know, the learning curve for NS is very steep, and new players often have a hard time to play, especially as aliens because most people aren't very used to melee based games (unless they've been playing PVK <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->), and if they have a hard time skulking they *may* be annoyed, and bored while playing and then eventually stop playing because of it.
So I thought it would be a good idea if some "vet(s)" that are very skilled and respected players (maybe someone from eR, pandas, exigent, `dn or ir?) would like to write a guide, focused on NS. Not the basics of the game, but rather what to think of especially when playing as alien, how to track marines, good ambush spots, how to behave in certain situations and so on.
The guide could be all from basic things such as using the parasite in a good way, to little more advanced things as explaining bunnyhopping, and how to use it effectivly. It could also explain certain strategies and roles you can play as a skulk and other alien classes. For exampel; a lot of new players have a hard time beeing a fade, so it could cover fading (romano^_^ is an excellent fade, maybe he would like to share some tips?) to lerking (forlorn, andrew) and gorging. I do think that skulk is the most important class to write about, since you will spend most of your time as a skulk playing aliens.
It could have some basic marine-tips and maybe some simple and effective commander-strategies.
The guide could also mention some basic competative strategies and what to think of when starting to play NS competative.
It could be kind of an in-depth manual, and if it would be a feature of this site, or the existing manual, it would be great.
Since it also would be focused around NS it could help new players to start with ns instead of co.
What NS needs now is more players, and I think that this might be a good way to help new players out and having a bigger chance of them staying, continueing playing NS instead of only trying it out.
I could write this guide myself, but my english really isn't all that great - and I also know there's a lot of players out there who are a lot better than I am.
If you wish to contribute, just post what you've written here or PM me the stuff, and I'll try to put it together as good as I can.
Regard, coris

I find sometimes that the best tactic is to catch your enemy by surprise. Simply put, if you walk behind them so that their back is facing you, you are pretty much guaranteed 1 kill. With cloaking, it is even easier (just remember to make that one of your first upgrades in combat if you are to use this technique).
And for marines, the best tactic is to let your friend go first. Lol
I know how lame that sounds, but it really works. The aliens go after the closest player, so while your friend is trying to fend off an alien attack, you can cover his **** by killing it for him. In the end, you and your friend up front both win this way. If you are both wreckless though, you are both within 'biting' range of an alien, and you're skulk bait. Also as a counter to my own alien strat above... don't assume aliens will always attack from the most obvious direction.
I created this thread so maybe the ns-elite could help some new players, and helping the ns community to grow larger because of it.
I also don't know how successful it will be at making people better at the game. No other game I have played works the same way as the aliens do in NS, not even PVK (go pvk!). Most of the minor things that set apart a vet from a good player are so small that they can't really be told. As for the elements that set a part a poor player from a good player, these are all so basic (don't run strait, etc) that anyone with experience in fps games will have them down already.
Just wondering, what name do you use in pvk coris?
I've only played pvk a couple of times at lan, but it was the best example i could give <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Forlorn, I'm glad to hear that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Of course sometimes that doesn't work out either. I was in a scrim vs exi yesterday and knew where everyone of there skulks were but when 3 of them charge you and ur in a little corner and they bullet in at like 580 up stairs ur pretty ****.
Maybe if you made the guide in really big letters, with pictures and arrows. We could let pneumatic crab do it in glorious mspaint ;p
++ I would wait till v4.0 before releasing any type of guide.
Not unless you were a pre-release playtester.
Will there be a v4.0? <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->
v3 beta 4, close enough <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
Aliens: Jump around alot and try to get close to the marines. When you do, try to keep the marine in the center of your screen. Hold down mouse1.
v3 beta 4, close enough <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Then say beta 4 damn you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Learn how to BHop and how to aim against BHopping skulks.
