What do you got planned?
I keep reading up on City of Heroes, reading the previews, reading the beta tester comments, etc. and it seems like finally there is an MMO out that that is Pwnage Incarnate.
Particularly interesting to me are the massive character creation possibilities... Which also leads to my first problem. I'm not sure what to make of my main character when I eventually get the game. I already know for secondary characters I wanna do a Berserk (Gatts) knockoff, and maybe a few others. But for my main guy, who I intend to use the most.. what is there? hmmm
I don't wanna do an all out clone of an existing comic character, like Batman or Superman. I'd like to get creative and actually role play a bit.
Of all the wonderful possibilities with the game, it seems Space Marine is the one they left out. ;)
PS Right before I hit the submit button I realized I've hit an all new rock bottom level of geekness. Woo.

One night a humble bar patron drank one drank too many and nearly succumed to alcohol poisoning! When he awoke from his 6 month hangerover he found the voices in his head had shared with him the knowledge of SUPER POWERS!!!!
I watch too much comedy central. :P
If it exists: The power to stick to walls.
UltimaGecko was...uhh...bitten by a radioactive gecko, or something. He now has the ability to climb walls and the immense power to crush things and leap large distances. He also has a pummeling energy discharge that envelopes the area around him and basically disintegrates stuff.
He can also sell car insurance to you...cheap.
As you can tell, I'm not sure if I'll get that game (or if it has powers I would associate with the UltimaGecko.
Has a huge brain and a tiny body. He has the power of telekinesis and telepathy.
His weakness? Kenny G.

Drinking would make him seem perfectly sober but would give him immense powers, and he had to drink all the time or else would start feeling woozy and drunk. So alchohol would have the exact opposite effect on him. He would have a sumbrerro, he would have a tight red pair of under where with purple stripes..., his weapons would include firey bottles of tequila and any kind of weapon you could find in a bar.
but really the names speaks enuff of it
I'd be disillusioned MMORPG person
abilities: Can pick faults for hours rather than actually play the game, but even when the gameplay commences they can rant for hours while levelling up o.O

And I can tell you this.
You like the idea of MMORPG, but you hates pkers, spawn camping, uber item bragging, non-existant story, fighting oversized rats and spiders, fighting over loots, and the wont-travel-without-healers syndromes.
You WILL like City of Heroes.
PS: And the sidekicks system makes sure a low lvl char can fight along with any lvl without being just a useless leecher.
Forinstance:
1) Is there any form of economey?
2) How do you tell what level a baddie is? (forinstance I am walking down the street and see some one pulling a GTA, can I just barge right in, or should I look at a descriptive to know if I can barge in)
3) Is the Combat system ACTUALY different? does it take any skill? or is it just glorified point and kill?
1) The form of currency is called Influence, which you earn by doing super hero things to earn fame (translated to standard game mechanics: kill enemies, complete quests)
2) no idea, but I'm sure there's gotta be some way. Probably a health bar above their head?
3) Its not an action game, its an MMORPG. They're meant for people w/o too fast reflexes heh. From what I understand once you enter combat you press 1-10 or click the cooresponding button on the HUD to execute an attack you assign to that hotkey. Nothing fancy like in a fighting game (that sort of thing wouldn't work netcode wise anyway even if you wanted it). It is supposed to be a lot better combat than in other mmorpg's though.

I play (run) the Hero System roleplaying game (from Hero Games), and in order to populate my world (an X-men like one with lots of oppression of Parahumans, shady government deals, mutant terrorists, and world threatening -erm- threats) i need to come up with many superpowered characters.
step 1:
method 1: Think of a name. one of the best characters in the game started as a name; "Hellfire". Best to use one or two word names, and ones that evoke images and concepts in the mind.
method 2: Come up with a package of super powers. one character in the game (Link) started with the idea of being able to create chains of force-energy attached to his arms. these can be used to swing about, hit people, wrap them up, be spun to block incoming missiles... with this method, less is more at least for the initial concept (here, chains. then i thought about what could be done)
Step 2:
Go to the Heromachine. play about for a bit. put together a character that looks right for what you decided in step 1.
Step 3: think up some background. origin, weakness (Druid, a plant controlling eco-terrorist takes significantly more damage from defolients and weedkillers) motivation (Revenge? Duty? Cold hard cash?)
Step 4: done.
*note that steps 1 and 2 can be reversed. i've come up with as many characters by just putting something cool together on HM and then filling in the blanks as i have using the method above.
I can post some of the characters (pics and bios) if i can find the disc with them on. Might help inspire you.

1) yah, but WHAT does it do? I heard some vauge things about this also, I just couldn't find anything to do with it.
2) as I said, I am just hoping that it is something nifty and intuitive
3) I know that. I am just wondering if the decisions ACTUALY do something.
I have played Anarchy Online and they did something similar to this, however it realy didn't add all that much to the game (though it was better then standard point and wait).
In AO you would have some skills that were just charge based (as in it had to recharg) and for that you just pressed a key when ever it came up to deliver your sniper/flury/power attack.
In the GSpy article the guy mentioned having multiple attacks for just melee combat (he had a strong single person slash, folow it up with a wide slash that would catch other people, and then use a quick jab to finish off the first and then start on another baddie).
I was more curious if this combat style realy makes in interesting or not. I am not looking for a fighting game, more for tactics
He could like go in circles and create tornados, and he could walk on walls (since apparently he walked far faster than gravity wanted to pull him down).
Not only this, but he also had super-humor!

Carzy-looking!
I'm so amazed the game run pretty fluid on my crappy Gforce2 laptap.
Yes, the game doesn't require reflex, but I think it's more of an option.
If you wanna just hack and slash, with the right combo and enhancement, it can be just that.
The game is very polished at this point even in beta, very few glitches and all.
I'll say it's Diablo + Phantasy Star Online.
it is basicaly $$, and you use it to buy temp/perm buffs, as well as getting NPCs to do stuff for you (like getting a vault for your group)
/me wished he had $50 to blow atm so he could preorder ;(
/me laughs at the silly jaded people.
Nem however brought up something I thought was a nifty concept (well, my housemate came up with it).
The option to have your charachter be Leathal Vs NonLethal.
Either you just splat the bad guys, or you could KO them and then cart em off to prision. Also be able to decide it on a fight by fight basis, so if your stoping a cat burgler you can just send him off to the jail, but if it is Mr Evil #1 trying to kill the city. Yuo could take him out (depending on your style)
If I have the $ when this comes out I will probably be playing it
As for what I want to play??? gah to many choices!
One I liked was working with some one.
have one person be your tradition:
"HUZZAAAAA!" (hands on hips, chest thrust out, bullets bouncing off)
and one be cynical Healer/buffer:
"You idiot! I was working on you for 3 weeks last time you pulled that stunt!!!!"
I ofcourse like the concept of the controller (I like my mnions )
And ofcourse the blaster on speed (zap, run zap run zap run RUUUUUNNNNNNNNNnnnnnn)
