Not... working... >_<
I think it's an issue with my shift key. It may have something to do with the fact that I can't change my cl_walkspeed (i.e. it's too high).
When I skulk and get cloaking, I just keep getting revealed. I'll do everything right to get cloaked, but when I walk, it reveals me after a bit. On level ground too. Which makes me think its a cl_walkspeed issue.
I didn't have this problem before. Now it's stopped me from using cloaking ( )
Also... I'm not completely silent when skulk shift walking. It'll give a footstep every few steps.

those things decloak you.
As well, have you tried "use"ing to walk instead of the walk key? even though it doesn't give you a uniform speed like walking does (you move at normal speed on walls and other such areas) it could solve your problem, atleast until you fix your walk speed.
It's a common mistake that a lot of nubcaeks make. Strafe or go forward/backwards. NEVER EVER both at the same time. And be very cautious around walls and corners, since they can sometimes speed you up (Moving along two planes, and ladder textures move you faster anyway), thus decloaking you.
True. I love Cloakwalking, i do it everytime i can. If just one rine gets scan pick him, run, come back to the group of rines cloaked.
in 2.0 it was default at 400, and you walked slow as hell, but you could change it, mine was 800 and i barley ever had problems
in 3.0 however, the commands are locked at something around 1000(i think) which imo is way too high

This guy is on the money, I doubt it has anything to do with your cl_walkspeed or whatever.
You have to be real careful, like actually stop before you strafe and just take everything real easy.
And I mean if they cant see you its not like your in a rush anyway.
Kinda of topic but still Im gonna ask, can anyone see Aliens while there cloaking?
I have once or twice, I'm just wondering how many people have spotted fully cloaked Aliens?
Yes they were lvl3 cloak

I've been banned from servers by pistoling cloakers walking towards me. Spose I deserved it.
If you do have cloaking, it's best to play the game like you didn't, taking all pre-cautions required. It's just a nice benifit to be harder to see.
Anyways, it's true, if you strafe *and* walk forward, aka move diagonally, you're going to lose your cloak.
It shows a sort of wireframe of the being using cloak. Remember that if you use SC cloak you are running as a "distortion" which is quite visible. A skulk has a compact wireframe, so they get nailed ALOT. walking on upgrade cloak is the same as SC cloak walking. the spot is still there but SLOW. Unless you are trained on seeing these spots, you won't.
remember.. the bigger the kharaa, the bigger the spot, but the less compact the wireframe. So you can detect it less fast (eek) but if you do detect it, its way easier to keep a eye on it (cause its big)
cloak aint perfect, just remember

no you didnt deserve it-youre supposed to see them. I do too. All of the time i kill skulks trying to hide in the corner or walk up to me really slow (especially in CO)
Its kinda funny sometimes i pretend to do see them, i walk past them and turn around really quickly only to find that there running full spped at me. So i just wip out my trusty shotty and BAM!. Needless to say sometimes they have a few choice words...
Then i have to explain how cloaking doesent meen youre fully cloaked and bla bla bla...

I completely agree that right now its way too high. Even if it was just too high and it could be changed but no, it cant be changed, annoyes the hell out of me. :/
So yeah, it has everything to do with cl_forwardspeed being locked too high. (1000 atm). Basicly it now go's too fast that in some situations you get uncloaked very easily, as in while your turning 90 degrees to the right or something like that.
Course theres bunch of other issues that uncloak you too.
btw, cloakwalking sucks.
I never cloakwalk simply cause I know cloaks bad habbits.
That is nto a way to get banned. Like I said, this "wireframelike thingy" or outline is real. its not purely a outline since limps etc also get showned. It is quite real and buildin feature of NS. if you got the brains, eyes and you trained to spot those I say you deserve to shoot those cloakers.
of course I am speaking of the buildin feature.. I am NOT speaking of ppl wasting there gamme etc, or w/e helps to see cloaks.. I mean NORMAL game settings..
just mentioning for the paranoids amoungst us. its possible to see cloaked fair
It's the little things that annoy me.
Unless you've been specifically looking for it, you generally cannot spot a cloaker when running along at full speed. Those crappy "Sweep back and forth while firing" bits don't work well either. The only way to spot a cloaker is to set yourself up in a position where you know the brightness of EVERYTHING.. then sort of blur your eyes a bit, and watch for a disturbance.
I don't know how many times I killed a skulk about to chomp my head off in co_angst by sitting on the chair and just.. waiting..
the first machine has a geforce 3 and i have yet to notice a cloaked player using default settings.
the second machine has a voodoo banshee and I readily detect outlines of cloaked players using default settings.
the third machine has some vendor specific TNT2 wannabe and cloaking (as well as any other transparency effect) is rendered useless. I see cloaked players even brighter than I do non-cloaked players (produces an overlay effect over the original model rather than fading out for some odd reason thus enhancing the colors instead of blending them).
It is also somewhat dependent on the monitors of your opponents as some are older than others and need some 3rd party programs just to have games playable. This tends to also affect the effectiveness of cloaking.
Personally, I'd rather see cloaking go all the way to 100% all the time with the different levels indicating the length of time it takes to transition from visible to cloaked... OR just remove cloaking altogether. Its general lack of reliable effectiveness has made me permanently forsake its use... i simply don't know who can see me and who can't. I usually just opt for focus or scent of fear when choosing my sensory upgrade.
But its possible. Yet you are either @ point blank if you see it (eek) or you are actively looking (sounds ppl)
running cloakers are visible without looking for them if you watch this distortion spot.
Fungus doesn't like bright light.
Stick to the dark corners, the shadows, the cover.
Flashlight is a cloakers bane. You see a guy lit up? He can probably see you.
Fungus doesn't move much.
Movement attracts the eye.
I've been cloak-walking my way into marine start as a gorge, had a marine stand on me and not realize I was there, because I was in dark shadows and kept absolutely still. (btw.. do NOT try this without silence.. my stupid gorgey tummy rumbled and that was about it.. although I got a nice message about a marine needing to change his pants.)
As a marine, bright lights are your friend. It's actually fairly easy to spot a cloaked Kharaa in a well lit area, there's a bit of a shimmer to the air where they are. The flashlight works wonders.
Spin & Spray doesn't often work. Why? Because unlike in life, marines have their rifles apparantly bolted to their helments, they can't shoot anywhere they're not looking. If you spin to spray a large area of the room, chances are that even if you hit the cloaker, he'll just hide or recloak before you turn back.
