24 hours old, but might still be around.
Last night #NS was hit by another virus link. Don't click ANYTHING involving a "CS Lamer." Or and URL ending in CS_Lamer.txt.

It's a virus that has hit numerous people. Just a warning.

uh oh I try not to download virus but last time I got one from brazil and it deleted my mp3s and jpgs and renamed them to .vbs and I read them with my hacker tools and it siad that they were brazilian hackers and they were going to fight for freedom~~

but that's not like this new exploit I dont think. I downloaded new IE called codenamed firefox and I think it should help protect from popup spammer virus attacks and security vunerabilities like these?

maybe everyone should download new IE patch firefox it's good and has super google bar up there I use to look for my favorite web page sites!

look I don't know what is wrong with your computer but it's not that I don't support brazil's fight for freedom but they are part of huge cybarterrorist ring that deleted my pornography off my secret folder on my computer imagine my surprise when I opened up /pics and saw 00001.jpg.vbs ok? that is cybar terrorist and wrong.

brazil is okay in my book I saw lots of girls from brazil and they were HOT and the guys are pretty chill and want to play soccer a lot and give me mango juice.

but so everyone knows I am not a racist or neither am I a fight for freedom opposer there is just a fine line where no one must cross between a good fight for freedom and a bad one that deletes my jpgs and legal emp3s.

EDIT: ok i am sorry didn't realize you werne't making accusation against me didn't mean to make you feel not comfortable in the forums it would be bad if I were internet tough guy didn't mean to seem like that I'm sorry!

1. Don't click any links containing: people.freenet.de.
2. For information about the virus, and if you're infected, read this : http://uranium235.thezazi.net/virusremoval.txt
3. Use a "real" webbrowser, other that Internet Explorer.

in this day and age, nobody can really claim ignorance with computer usage. You are responsible for your computer's safety. Thus, you need to know how to protect yourself, and stay protected.

Go to, read through, and check regularly sites:

www.governmentsecurity.org
www.securityfocus.com

and www.google.com for others

then install the following:

firewall: kero personal firewall [or something else. dont bother with zonealarm, i hate it]
router: if you have one, a router is so so good i cannot say. it protects you against pretty much everything that is automated... i.e virus spread.
browser: seriously, be smart. install mozilla firefox. all of these urls, the scripts do nothing. they dont download or execute. this is a secure, and GOOD, browser.
spyware: spybot search & destroy. lavasoft adaware.
virus: norton antivirus... get the free one
monitor: if you have a good computer, you may even want to set up ethereal, packet monitor...
oh and for incoming ip blocking [p2p etc] try 'peer guardian'. its good, but it lags on my crappy computer... [600 mhz geforce, 256 mb ram, crappy mobo]. although that was a while ago, new releases might be better too.

if youre in windows, set your auto-update to download automatically, and even install automatically. keep up to date with security.

jeez guys, its not that much to ask... and you will feel 1337 doing it

I'm sick of everyone saying IE is so insecure, if you get the latest patches, have a HARDWARE firewall and at least haflway decent virus software you stay safe.

And I'm pretty sure randomly downloading things from IRC effects people using opera too.
• eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
umm, but IE by itself is NOT secure. thats how we justify ourselves saying "ie is not secure". how? because it is not secure.

duhhh

" I'm sick of everyone saying IE is so insecure, if you get the latest patches, have a HARDWARE firewall and at least haflway decent virus software you stay safe."

'if you get this program, sure, its insecure. but if you get our 5 other programs and devices, then it will be pretty secure! sorta.'

why do we promote mozilla? because we like it, because its BETTER, and because we dont want to have to see those stupid bloody virus messages everywhere. either move to mozilla or another secure browser, stop using the internet, or secure your bloody IE.

The fact that IE is so close-knit with windows operating systems and programs that run on it annoys me. I use Firefox right now and Im secure right? But if I use mIRC for example, see a link and click it Firefox does diddly squat for me and instead IE opens and shows whatever the link is/was. How's that for "supergood firefox" eh? There's no way firefox can ever help with irc links unless you're the voucher type and copy/paste links to firefox instead of clicking them

umm set firefox to be your default browser. it will open with firefox from now on... except other microsoft stuff, or stuff that kisses microsoft's ****. like the programs where you have to use IE to verify or do something or other, and they dont or will not accept anything else. and that sucks because my IE is screwed.

ah well, i just wont use the crappy programs.

damned monopoly

meh, I got a hardware firewall, software firewall, virusscanner, Opera, and last but certainly not least AN UPDATED WINDOWS

I do not open .exe's unless I coded them myself or I know the person IRL and I KNOW that he aint doing stuff I don't want.

I do not accept those stupid ad-ware/spyware/porn dialers

I do NEVER EVER download -programs- with kazaa/any other p2p program
(bittorrent I do sometimes but that risky too I found out, lucky I had a good virusscanner)

I use common sense and a bit of paranoia combined with an updated OS and some security measures, so thats why I can say:

ALL CLEAR!

By the way, you don't even need to follow that guide. The "virus" writer (Basically, he just hexed a mIRC client to pass the virus on. It's unpacked with WinRAR!) included a BAT file called "fix.bat" that completely removes the virus! (I checked it in Notepad, it does what it says.) Just run fix.bat and it's gone and all the damage it did is fixed.

That problem has been fixed for centuries. Your extremely old version of mIRC is also vulnerable to all 8 billion mIRC exploits, so I suggest you get the newest version soon.
