Some Really Old Memory.

<div class="IPBDescription">From my grandpa.</div> Here's some photos I snapped of this memory board. It's about 114 x 180 millimeters.

It's got two sets of 765 little metal rings. It's got a matrix of wires woven though them all so that a charge can be applied at any one of the rings. It's read and written to by doing something spiffy to the magnetic states of the little rings.

My grandfather gave me this along with some punchcards. It's pretty cool. I'll post some pics of the punchcards if anyone's interested enough.

That's amazing, how many kilobytes can it hold?

    Do the maths yourself nubs.

    2 x 765 bits =

    191.25 bytes.

    Woo.

I shall post more pics soon provided I can figure out how to use the macro mode on my digicam properly. ^_^

I find it being 765 bits very unlikely. That isn't a power of 2, which is like a fundamental thing w/ computer stuffs.

    O.o

    I just recounted, 51 by 15. That's 765... odd.

    MORE PIKTUARS!

But I think the thing we all want to know is, how big of a fire will it start if you try and run Half-Life 2 on it?

Deep fry that badboy and eat it. Or use it as a plate. Or make it into some bling.

Coolies. Would that be "core memory"? Learned about a kind of old memory called core memory which was described as what that looks like. Always thought the rings were bigger.
