Model making question

Hope this is the place for it ;)
Hi guys/gals. Ive recently started making map models for various h/l mods and thought that some for NS maps might be cool.

Ive hit a problem when attempting to make some humans (corpses? ) in tubes, as a research station section of a map. the tubes need to have transparent glass, and i dont know how to make this a property of a model. Im using milkshape. Is this possible?

The mod 'opposing force' has a section where some baby aliens are in vats, and i believe this was done by having a model suspended in a worldcraft built container. is this the only way to do it? or the best?

cheers.

i think its the only way, to mave transparent parts in a model u need a special skin overlapping the mormal one( i cant remember how its called) and halflife (unlike quake an UT) doesn't support it. because of this, u sadly cant have any transparent part in a halflife model...

I'd say your best chance would be making the containers themselves out of brushes, and suspending the model in there.

I'd suggest against making tube corpses... ugh...

Yes. If you have to make them, make them cryo-sleepers or something and make that obvious. Dead bodies in NS = no.

The mapping guide tells you that you have no chance that your map becomes included with the game if you put dead marine corpses in your map.

if you've ever played merkaba's concquest_r, theres a secret passage and at the end of the passage you jump through a thing and your model becomes transparent. Dunno if you could apply this or not :/ I don't think it's possible to make parts of models transparent.

Marines don't die, they just fade away.

tube corpses = nice... but i guess you have to make cute sleeping bodies with teddy bears instead

unfortunetely halflife doesnt support transperancies of any kind in models.. the whole transperant model thing is a programmed thing applied to the whole primative, not indavidual polygons. Your best bet is allow the mapper to make the tube and place the model inside

if its a map model. it'll be very difficult if possible. if its a render its quite easy.

    I think its possible.
Its just that you have to break the cryo tube into 3 parts, the top, the glass, and the bottom.
Leave the render properties the same for the top and bottom, but change the glass to some transparent type. This is all configured by the mapper, of course.
Though I may not be entirely accurate, think of the holographic lady in the Hazard Course, and the G-man in de_vegas.
If I am remembering correctly, and those examples are transparent, then you may be good to go.
But I dont know if it will apply to glass that well.

To make a model see throughable in the game like the holographic tutor in the halflife training mission is something i would apply to the entire model when i make it in a map. What i wish to do is create a single model that has sections that are transparent. As this has been explained as unfeasable i will resort to making the tubes out of brushes, but, which was my reasoin for making it a single model, this will add to the r_speeds of the map and thus allow for less detailed areas.

A joke... I smell a suspension or something... All you do is post non-intelligent stuff and quote others... Thats not normally a good thing but its acceptable... When you do it 2 times or so... But you do it ALL THE TIME, niknito... Think about your next posts...
Think what consequences they'll have if you continiously make those posts... Just... Think about it!!!

    ~Yours truly, nerdie
