A separate parasite color for structures has been a requested feature for a long time now(and in <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/bt/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000481' target='_blank'>the bug database</a>), so I went ahead and made one for hopeful inclusion. It couldn't hurt, right? Nothing dramatic here, just a recolor; I tried it out(swap it for blip0.spr in the sprites folder) and it fits in pretty well with the color scheme. Tell me what you guys think of it.

<a href='http://sago.orcon.net.nz/Chookz/structurepara.zip' target='_blank'>.spr file is here</a>

Actually that is really nice and would go a long way towards helping aliens get situated in pubs.

    Good work.

What would you guys say to a slightly different colour or shade for electrified structures?

Nah. That would just confuse new players.

You reckon? I figure seeing a sprite for a normal building and a sprite for an elec'd building would be obvious once you saw the difference?

Perhaps an electric green sprite would be cool.

    Meh perhaps your right.

    It's been suggested, and now it's been done. Very nice work indeed <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Good work, but i dont like the colour. I dont know why. I'd like to see a re-colour of the SoF sprite for building methinks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    GW anyway

    I support this great idea.

Right now I hate it when teammates tag marine RTs, since I tend to expect to find a sneaky marine there instead.

What do you think about expanding this to include a different sprite for different buildings, or HA marines, for example?

Perhaps it would give too much info to the Aliens side. Or maybe not?

I think much more than a building and marine parasite would give too much information personally.

Living tissue sprite (marines) and a mechanical item sprite (building)

It would infect each differently and fits into the story easily...

I like it, but think that coloring needs to change a bit...how about purple for buildings.

i'd like to see them in the new parasite style rather than the old one, but I know that what you did was just a hack-job and it came out very nicely <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Hey you're right, the new style was just for hivesight stuff and not parasites <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Should electrified structures even be parisitable? Doesn't make sense that a living organism can attach itself to a hunk of metal with a thousand volts running through it.

    Um......

That's why parasites on structures are different color, because the parasite dies and gives off it's last known signal and therefore a different color.

See, Zek's idea fits in nicely

Along with a slight color change, why not just rotate the vert-oval shape to horizontal? That'd make it easier to differentiate at a distance.

Great idea, terrible color. Blue or green shades just don't fit in with the rest of the yellow, orange and red colors in the hive sight HUD. Making it reddish orange but keeping the shape the same would easily distinguish between players and structures without marring the visual style.

    agreed.
I was thinking about the colours the aliens have already, green for gorg, red for distress etc..
a dull orange/ red makes the most sense
  • GhostBomberGhostBomber Join Date: 2002-11-04 Member: 6910Members
Good idea. I actually like the color very much, but Narfwak brings up a good point. It really doesn't fit with the rest of the hive site colors. I thought that color seemed very machine-like, but it really isn't consistent with 'green for gorge.' I'd say an orange shade would fit well.

    Agreed.

    Otherwise Zek, a fine job!
