Anyhow, HAMBONE was at one time listed as the best comm, while SHAMPOO as the best NSplayer.
Hate to hijack the thread here, but I'd hate to start a new one simply for this question: Would SHAMPOO and HAMBONE still be considered the best at their respective classes nowadays? It seems like a whole lot of new talent has emerged, and they wouldn't be as dominant.
I'm going with forlorn and kaze with some sort of massive statistical, ranking thing accross all servers. You'll notice that Flayra says it's him, joev and XP cagey. Joevs position on the team according to the team page is a database programmer and linux helper and XPcagey just maintains the mapping documents and the manual, i think this effectively rules out any sort of new fang dangled gameplay mode though i could be wrong, of course and it'd make sense wouldn't it to involve joev as everything would be stored in some big old database.
A massive statistical thing would change the way NS is played but not in the way we're thinking with gamemodes/new features but it'd make it more competitive in average play. *shrug*
Well, you can't really blame Flayra for breaking promises he never made <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I would bet money that it isn't a huge massive ranking system (or anything like that). Flayra in the past has tried to promote ambiguity in terms of "who is leet" - ie, taking out individual player score, team score system, etc. Why would he want to set up a whole system just so a few people can have an ego trip? Seems kinda pointless to me.
why not set up a system that can determine who in the community has the best "life" - it could be determined by those with the highest scores. We can even set up a ranking system:
Leet gamer = 1 I pwn joo = 2 CS reject = 3 Got no job = 4 Understand fundimentals = 5 Nooblet = 6 What is NS = 7 Got a girlfriend = 8 Got a mortgage = 9 Got 2.35 kids = 10
Didn't he say that It would change the way competetive play is done in one of the latest interviews that would rule out a statistics page. Maybee it's some sort of betting service where we can play for money and flayra takes a percentage <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
From what I heard from my secret sources the big change is to a card based system played between teh alien hive and the marine commander, each side will take turns placing cards on the map, for res, defences upgrades etc. Until one side wins or runs out of cards.
Onos-achu I choose you! Ha, ha I placed a trap card face down!

Once more, even if it's going to be a ranking system, nobody knows whether it'll be kill based, so do us all a favor and keep your sarcasm in check for now.
The last time Flayra did something like this, he said it was something we were "all waiting for" and it turned out to be a grenade, which maybe 2.4 people thought about.
So, don't get your hopes up <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I happen to like them, they add one more thing to think about, as well as giving LA/LMGs the ability to send in a barrage before charging a hive, which will sweep out quite a few skulks that may be waiting, or damage a hive noticably and in a short amount of time if it's a covert operation.
maby he finally got the volumetric flame thrower working <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I can guarentee one thing, won't be MvM or AvA <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Nope, we're not working on an official MvM -- the code just happens to (almost) work as-is, with some scattered issues to fix (like team 3 not being able to repair CC). I don't believe the dev team has ever tried to get it to work interally; If you are releasing a MvM or AvA map, it's unsupported by the dev team -- I hope people keep that in mind when things don't work properly .
Like I've mentioned before, there's a lot more artwork to be done for an MvM mode than coding. We're not planning on supporting MvM or AvA in any of the 3.0 releases, so you'll be using it at your own risk.
I'd almost prefer that people didn't release MvM or AvA maps to the general public because of the bugs which we won't be fixing right now (gettting AvM and CO issues resolved obviously takes precedence... I'm not sure what the policy on MvM bugs would be, but I suspect that the best you'll get in response right now is "thanks for the report, we'll add to the list of things to fix in a future version of NS"); I suppose the fact that you need a plugin to make models glow before you can tell classes apart is enough of a tip-off that it's not officially supported.
I'm not sure what Flayra's thoughts are on the matter... <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> You can already play MvM if you want, I'm sure the guys in the mapping forum could list a couple servers that run it in thier rotation's.

A ranking system is big enough in its own right... so would a change in the resource system... but I like my idea the best...
ALL OF THE ABOVE - This feature means that if you have ever desired a feature to be in the game or ever will desire a new feature it will be there automagically the instant you think about it. Don't like how much damage you're dealing as a lerk... fixed! Is that pesky hive just not going down fast enough... your wish is our command! Tired of getting owned by those who actually know how to play the game... worry no more because we just made you 1337! No more ammo... too little res... not enough cannon fodder... that's all in the past ladies and gentlemen. The game is now continuously altered to be just like you want it when you want it. On top of that, all content and mechanics are instantly ported to any game engine / platform of your choosing while maintaining the ability to work with one another seamlessly.
Oh and in reality, I really do think its a ranking / competition organization system as the latest blip on the main page hints at... heck... it even uses the same terminology ("will change the way....")
Another possibility is a central NS map database for all server admins to use.
Now that sv_downloadurl has been added to Half-Life, if there were a central server with every custom map for servers (People would submit maps to be included) to link to, any server could set any map without worrying about (broadband) clients downloading it.
Wow, someone had planesift in their sig! I never knew planesift people exsisted in the real world.... well.. ns world :S
Anyways, I think I'd be pretty dissappointed if it was just new score thing. I hate having a score thing at all really. So many times in NS I get people talking about who got more kills then who. Clan matches are the only places you can really get any team play anymore.

Wow we are all truely blind! I think Mr Mojo has something, all the other ideas including my own are pretty bad as to this "new" system. Full steam support though would fit everything that has been said about it and would change the way ns is played indeed, awesome I don't know why no one else thought of it, we knew it was coming subconsciencely but I know I didn't think about it, I'm placing my money on full steam support.
