Yea... because Combat is <i>SOOOOOO</i> important <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So yes, Combat is so important... at least as important as Classic.
I prefer combat on certain days because sometimes Classic games can be 3-4 games of just total one team domination in a row. In classic one person makes no difference, in combat they can, you feel more important I guess <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So, combat is important!
3.0, it's all about "clan play", always winning... and apparently yelling at the newbs because they don't know what they're doing. You people say that combat is what is holding the people in these days, and you may be right... In 1.04 both teams had their ups and downs and that was what was fun about it. Fades were unbelievably powerful, but only available to the second/third hive and JPers (with high FPS of course) were gods basically, but there was always a counter to each thing. Gorges had web at second hive (was very useful for dropping JPers to their death ROFL).
What I'm trying to say is, NS lost its fun factor and the only thing holding a lot of people on is combat, which is pretty bad because it is a cheap rip-off of CS... only NS style.
Seriously, Drakken is right. Many of us old timers really are very uninspired by whats happened to the game. Thats life though, things change. Drakken - can I suggest you join me and Roo in the *No Time For Muppets* NeverWinter Nights server and perhaps help us build our new persistent world?
<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Be happy, we've had our moneys worth.
Now its a balanced mod, but it's lost an edge.
It's still fun but not AS fun as it used to be. It's more competitive than ever.
I usually look back on 1.04 with great dislike, but that's because 9 out of 10 games had me on the alien side... Not just because of jetpacks, but because of the bad economy system which meant the marines had a great advantage on the 8v8+ server I played on. Especially since the clannies who owned the server would usually have at least 1 of them on the marine side, as a commander, meaning aliens had pretty much no chance.
Maybe it's because of the "more intense gamplay" introduced in v2? I remember thinking that it was a step towards more deathmatch-like gaming. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Ooh, let's not forget the joys of 2-hive lockdowns where you spend all of the game as a skulk vs 20 turrets and 3 lmgs in each hive.
I think people like it for 2 reasons: the gameplay was much simpler, ("get a hive and win" was the alien strat, "get 2 hives or JP rush" was the marine strat) and the more interesting alien evolutions and marine tech tended to come out every game (due to shallow tech tree and longer games)

....and, i find that to be more fun then the current game.
i dont play a whole lot of classic because all the whining of people asking comms for stuff, telling gorges what to do instead of doing it themselves.
overall, even with all the imbalances of 1.04, i liked it more. (and the maps were nicer imho)
webbs more early, totally useless and stupid but just fun brabblers, a lerk that was more fun that the one now (and noone could handle it, gnahaha) (although the new system is awesome), smaller but better community..
Weeeeee!!! <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Then they will be screaming how 3.0 was the sex and the fun has been taken out of the game since then.
Please people, games with smaller communities that you have just discovered are always remembered with fondness. I too look back on my first week of NS back in 1.00 and smile cause it was mad fun with cool people. Then I remember hitting F4 in disgust regularily 3 months later because it was the same old same old. I would come on the forums and dream about 1.1, and how much that would pwn.
Now I have 3.0, and I'm dreaming of B4 to solve all my problems. Attempt to enjoy the game as is now, just as you did back in 1.04, and you'll find it is just as gratifying an experience. Granted, there wont be the same thrill of exploration, the same "OMG its a great bloody rhino RRUUUuunnnn" experiences, but its still just as involving and enjoyable as it was when it first came out.
If you wish to see a truely ruined mod that has been flogged of entertainment - head over to www.dayofdefeat.com, but dont try to pretend it was all peachy in the good old days. Bugs and endless, frustrating, predictable games generally fade over time, until all you can remember are the good times.
nope no changelogs yet, they will come out tomorrow (most likely before the release).
