You do realize that its nigh impossible at those speeds to even realize theres a difference right? Nowadays unless youre upgrading to ~double youre old speed its extremely hard to tell....

Heh, I have an XP1800+ and that is EXACTLY what I plan to do.

While we're on computer questions, how much do you think I can sell this one for?

-1.15mhz processor
-40GB hard drive
-384mb Ram
-Generic Sound card, nothing great
-Radeon 7000 graphics card
(including keyboard, mouse and monitor)

Yeah, it's a bit on the old side.

My dilemma is that i'm actually running my processor at 1.53mhz and using a radeon 9700 pro. The motherboard is actually over-FSB'ed and I don't want to sell someone an over-FSBed mobo (like someone else did to me, and then I wondered why it kept crashing ).

But then I thought if i'm selling it as a 1.15 (which is the max the mobo can take) there's not much point selling a radeon 9700 pro with it, that would be like selling a mini with a ferrari engine in it or something.

Soooo, my idea is to sell my old computer with the specs above, and the graphics card seperately (which is still worth about ?150 on its own). Or would it be more profitable to sell it as a 1.5, but make sure I tell the buyer about the over-fsb thing?

O.k that looks very confusing when I read it through for myself, I hope you get what my problem is

*edit* Sorry to derail this thread a little, but I didn't think my problem quite deserved a thread to itself *edit*

doesnt tell me whats my best bet.

I read like 100 reviews on the xp 2500 saying i could overclock it to 3200 easily with no hassle.

Only like 84 bux or 95?

Pretty much any new 2500+ is going to be locked, you might want to try a 2600

*Edit*

And newegg is not expensive....

Even though you say AMD only, I highly recommend the intel pentium 3000 processor. It's amazing. My friend bought one, and the prize/quality is INCREDIBLE. I've been an AMD zealot for a long time, but I think atm pentiums rock the boat all the way. AMD's are simply not that good.

If you're absolutely sure that you want AMD, TigerDirect has damn good prices.

If you can find an unlocked 2500+ that would be your best choice for a CPU without a doubt.

Rawr:

go to a store, preferably a computer store, no not best buy, and buy a new mobo -_-

Yeah. What you're looking for if you're going to be buying a Pentium 4 is a Socket 478 motherboard. Preferrably the ATX specification, although mATX (MicroATX) seems to be getting popular. They usually have less features. (IE: Most either lack an AGP slot or have a 1x one. Mine has a 4x AGP slot that runs on 2x voltage and only 3 PCI and a CNR slot.)
