If you want to play 1.04 on WON, you can get it at http://redphive.org/?view=redphive_file_display. I don't know where you can get 2.01. If you want to play 3.0, then you will have to play it through Steam.
Try the NS website under downloads? If thats what your asking. Though it is only playable under steam now. But you need to downoad it from a mirror on NS.org.
Ive installed Steam 5 months ago... And working more than fine since then except a few common bugs; friends server down sometimes, hard to update in 10-12 hours after releases, some crashes in quiting game (fixed though)... And no never heard of any case steam masses your system...

Yes you need steam to run NS 3.0. Steam isnt so bad once you stop complaining how bad is it. Iv had it since it come out for the public and have not had to reinstall.
You can only Alt+Tab out if there is something to switch to (if you get an IM, for example). Otherwise you have to wait until you are dead to click outside the window, if you are running it in windowed mode, and in full screen mode you wouldn't be able to. It's still better than WON, of course.
If Alt+Tab doesn't work, you can always force Windows to steal focus away from Steam, by pressing the 'Windows' button, and bringing up the Start Menu. And you still keep your sound, which is one of the benefits of using Steam.
well i have no problem with steam, update is not even a problem to me, so yeah it's a good program, and it gets new improvements
and also, steam let you play on a window display instead of full screen and let you hide the screen fast. This is one of the good thing for ppl like me where their parents get angry over their children for playing games

Generally the type of parents who don't let thier kids play games are the type who don't know anything about computers, mostly because the media instructs them on how to think.
