OMFGLOLKTHXBAI!!!11
I must say, thank the lord, the new changes, and especially the re-release of bast, let me experience the best game of NS i've had since NS1.. and Epic 67 minute long game (by far the longest since the 3+ hour long games of NS1). Back and forth constantly, taking of hives back and forth, great.
Bast is a terrific example of a map, lots of great choke points... I cant really place my finger on it, but because its basically the only map from NS1 that hasnt had many major changes (eclipse, tanith have been modified greatly), it seems to work better.
I just feel it necessary to say great work, Im glad to see my constellation dollars are going into improving the game.

Now the ex-vets are gonna turn up and say how epic games just show your lack of skill in the game to end it quickly!!
I have loved epic games since 1.0x and think they really were fun. Short games while showing your "skills" are so boring and the feeling of achievement really becomes rare.
The only thing though epic games can get really boring if achieved too often, and if people really feel they arent getting anywhere.
If map control goes backwards and forwards that makes things interesting.

Hopefully so; short, often after 5 minutes decided games are getting on my nerves.
Imagine. we lived for 35 minutes without ever getting hive2. Ok, we lost but still.
it appears to be the only real map that i like due to unique balance and gameplay styles shown in it.
i hope they never change it tbh, and the 1.04 hera was better than the 2.0/3.0 versions
answer:nothing
so its was all in your head. pub games are more likely to have stalemates cuz of lack of decisicve action and the preponderance of turret farm/ phase gate lockdowns. instead of wasting res on farming how about moving on the next hive and attacking that. in fact this habit sometimes allows aliens to get it together and make a comeback. i was in a game yesterday where the aliens had no rts or ith nobody with res to put any up yet we proceeded to get enuogh rfk and push back 3 differnt seige attempts(with only skulks) and go on to win the game. alien games are constantly made miserable by marines prelonging the game when there victory is clear
afai recall 1.0x was all about jp rush with booming.
what exactly changed to make anything different besides lerk?
For classic that is, screw combat.
or maybe i'm just misunderstanding what you're saying.
He's not talking about the entire game, just bast.
edit: re-read his post: he is talking about the whole game, but he's talking about a specific "epic" game on bast... I don't really think any of the changes made the other maps more epic... well, lerk having lower gestate and the no energy usage certainly had some effect.
Bast is a really big map, and makes for really long games. It wasn't in the beta before, now it's finally back, but it has also had balance tweaks which make it about ten times better.
Basically rines after failed attempt to kill growing second hive (aliens had lerks and fade) held double and ventilation hive, nothing more. Aliens had rest of maps covered with OC and all other res. Aliens tried to attack simultaineously but rines had enough ha/guns to survive all attacks even though there were dramatic moments - armory lost, pg in base @ double lost while attacking hive resulted in beacon and run to save base, vent under constant attack waves.. i was comm and i was most time just checking alien movement to predict and warn before attack.. Several hive attacks failed including jetpacks, sneaky pg, but eventually marines with top upgrades and won battle with onos/lerk pack managed to get near gen hive and siege it winning the game (with 1 hive aliens were dead in 1-2 minutes).
Another vgg today.. on tanith and eclipse, not so long but very dramatic 20 minutes games, with no obvious result.
I think more lerks and improved maps make games longer. Lerk is giving aliens advantage early, this is what they need with crappy skulks..
But I have had some epic games on other maps, but that happens every now and then. Bast seems to be an epic game almost every time.
New eclipse does a little job at doing that now also, seeing as marine start's doors are such Dodge this. things, fading in, swiping, fading out to see the doors closing on your head. I love it =D
but i've played a few terminally boring games, where the marines are cowards, stay in base or maybe the occasional useless foray outside and the aliens dont take the advantage (or vice versa). No-one speaks, or even types...(usually quiet comm too). Someone goes onos, or fade, then quickly dies....rts get put up and taken down, marines start farming instead of attacking and the game plods on, and on, and on
Still, gg, glad to play as celerity/non-adren lerk for a change
Perhaps the upping of does contribute somewhat to longer games... aliens tend to go lerk more rather than save for fade, which may lead to an increase in HAs walking around slowly with their hmgs? And since lerks aren't as suited to primary attack roles as fades are aliens might have difficulty in taking out penned-in marines.
That's just a theory of mine though.

Ns1 on bast, nothing beats the epic 4 hour game where the marines destroyed the hives 20x and had to relocate 6 times including sticking a cc on top of refinery hive.!!!oneoneone
Oh the feeling of accomplishment at the end!!!
