<div class="IPBDescription">Damn it all to bloody hell...</div> Yeah somehow I've managed to score Jury Duty today....

I pray to hell I get there, they do whatever, and I'm not selected to be empanelled... Not that I wouldn't do my job if I was.... I just don't wanna waste a day of my life over something I really have no obligation for...

Anyways... off I go...

Let me hear some Jury Duty stories so I can read them when I get back...

*sigh*

If you really want to get out of jury duty but don't want to lie about anything, just tell them you actively participate in a worldwide community of 20+ thousand people who meet online to discuss how fun natural selection is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Jury duty was great for me. I turn up one day, sit around for an hour watching videos about what it's like in the court, then they tell me i'm not selected for the current trial and i can go home. Then i had to call in every day for a week or two, didn't get called in any other day. So yeah, about an hour then no work. I was happy. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

My dad did jury duty once. He refuses to talk about it because he is still under the privacy thingy that he signed. I just think he was abused by the judge and it has left him mentally scarred and he doesn't want to talk about it.

what big jim said, unless he was kidding.
have some respect for your nation.
there would be no fair trials if nobody did jury duty. it should be an honor to have been selected to serve for your government...

I got a letter the other day informing me that I had been randomly selected from the electorial roll for jury duty. If I didn't return the letter by the due date I would be fined $700. I recieved the letter about a week AFTER the due date.

I filled it in and sent it out ASAP with a cover note explaning why it was late.

    :-X

I'm interested to know how this works, mind explaining to me ? Do random members of the public get called up to be on a jury, or do only certain people qualify ?

they should do what they did in the simpsons

<!--QuoteBegin-moe when reading his call up papers+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (moe when reading his call up papers)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->You have been selected to join the Justice Squad, report to the Municiple Fortress of Vengence 8am monday! - oh boy I am so there!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

but yeah i was only half joking about what i said at the top of the page, our justice system (and most for that matter) depends on a jury of the defendents peers, and trying to get out of it just seems, to me, a bit of a cheep thing to do.

My work colleague was called for jury service. Your not supposed to talk about the case but he was so happy with it that he told me afterwards.

A guy was up before the beak for bringing pron videos into the country but the real stinger was that the jury had to watch some of the material!

He got in an arguement with other jurors because he didnt see what was wrong with porn and wouldn't agree with the guilty verdict.

    > Now that is a jury I wouldn't mind being in.

My wife was on a murder jury - not nice.

Only gone to Jury Selection once (back in Canada)...

Trial was about a male dance instructor who was charged with sexual assault, and statutory rape.

Turns out my wife (then Girlfriend) had taken classes from him, though I didn't know that until much later.

So it would have been a major unknown conflict of interest if I had made the jury.

But I agree Jury Duty is your civic duty as a democratic citizen, just like voting..

People love to talk about how free the country is, but the second jury duty or an election comes up, they don't want to participate in the processes that make the country free.

So all the countries with no juries have unfair trials? I better not get busted then <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The government could be much more considerate about it though. I'm going to school out of state, and I get a letter saying that I have to show up for jury duty in 3 weeks time. I'M IN SCHOOL. IN ANOTHER STATE. HALFWAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. They could have picked a much better time to call me up for duty....

you don't have juries in your trials?
    how do they work then?
a single judge makes the verdict???
