The Davinci Code

<div class="IPBDescription">Best book ever......</div> SO i got this book the other day in the carribean on my way home so i would have something to read for the 6 hour ride home....

I did not put it down, turning down both lunch and snack on two seperate flights... and tripping over people in the airport for not watching where i was walking, this was easily the most intriguing book i have ever read.

Without giving too much away, Leonardo Da-Vinci was part of a secret brotherhood (this is true) which is believed to guard the secret of the grail. The grail isnt what everyone thinks, its something else, and all who know of it have been murdered in one night by the "church" bent on keeping the brotherhood from releasing the grail to the world, exposing the church as fake, and misleading..

What IS the grail, im not telling, but i will say this book is INSANE GOOD...

one of the most interesting things i read from this book was an actual number, PHI, which exists, known as the Divine proportion, or golden number, i was amazed at how it applies to all life, nature, the bible, theology, ecxetera. I looked more about this online and found out this was also true and existed...

All in all i would recommend this book to everyone, but this isnt just a book report/ advertisement, i know some of you here have had to read this book, and i want to hear your views on it...

I haven't read the book, but I do recall a website associated with it that had you answer certain questions in order to advance in the site, and at the end you were given a phone number to call. I did manage to successfully complete the webpage, but I don't remember what the pre-recorded message said ^^:

The golden number/ratio has been known for a long time and I knew about it when I was 13. It has been mentioned so many times it's almost a cliche now.

    'ender's game' series
    'battlefield earth'

I got Prey by Michael Crichton

I looked at the Da Vinci code but got Prey instead.

    Holy god Prey's good....
  • eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
Prey is also a good book. But if you've read any of his other books, you'll notice he has a trend of... well, the ending, how it all works out conveniently? That happens in every other book. "how very convenient"
  • VenmochVenmoch Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1093Members
It doesn't in Prey. Theres still a kinda sense of dread that this was only the start.

this might be slightly off topic, but some people finally figured out how Da Vinci's car worked and made a model. Far from power efficient but working nevertheless.

Might be a good book, I wouldn't know (I currently have a stack of 4 books to read, including one by Tom Clancy... which is basically 4 books in itself). The only unfortunate part is it tries to pass itself off as being full of fact and truth, but much like The Blair Witch Project, just because the creators say its real and true dosen't mean it actually is.

And according to the little bit of googling I did, Opus Dai was founded in 1928 and the Priory of Sion was founded in the 1950's by Pierre Plantard who was born in 1920. Leonardo Da Vinci died in 1519 though, I am not sure how that is explained <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That sounds a lot like the plot for the first Lara Croft movie, except the Da Vinci part.

I have to say Sphere, Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, Lost World, Timeline and Congo were all better books than Prey (although, Congo is pushing it there...) by Michael Chrichton.

Prey seems far to unrealistic compared to the others (yes...even the dinosaurs). It's trying to hard to be theatrical. Still better than a lot of books, but I don't think it's overly good.

Isaac Asimov also has good books (as does HG Wells, but those start to not seem as realistic if you're looking for 'plausible things that really could happen', because Wells is from the early 20th century area, before most high tech physics and stuff.

am I the only one who read davinci code from start to finish and decided the book was crap?

The only reason you couldn't put it down was because of straightforward shoving your face into the simple fact that you don't know this detail and you're going to have to keep reading to get that detail. Sure that got me to, doesn't make it a good book, actually a very poor one.

What annoys me the most is that people actually took most of what was presented as true and don't even look to the sources he sites and note that just about everything is speculation about missing parts. It's a work of fiction, the author presents it as a work of fiction but people want to believe it anyway.

that's enough ranting from me, so I'm out.
