I play both but lately I've had more fun playing as a marine, its a bit more "challenging". You need to work as a team a bit more, and I do enjoy the chaotic "something may jump out from this vent" feeling. Aliens are more stalkers, marines are more action packed I'd say.
Lerks flying everywhere, fades teleporting around, skulks jumping from ceilings!
4a has made it alot more fun to play both sides though, most of the games I've seen have been fairly even, mainly because of Focus changes I think. I never had too much of an issue with focus myself, but it seemed to decimate the rest of the team and end the game quickly. Now I find myself with shotgun before any skulks have focus
aliens are what got me into the game... shooting was the "oh great yet another FPS" while close combat was the "ooh AvP-like. melikey" that got me into it. The RTS was the "woah better than AvP" part
Alien, even more so if you'll have me endure a co_ map(even if marines won 99 % in co, still alien it's just more fun to get all that time in the air to play with the air acceleration, being gorge and webing solo-ing JPs or umbra/spore spaming in the early game when everyone still has LA.)
They hardly ever lose and there's a horrible marine stack so I almost always end up playing aliens ( rather than sitting in the ready room for 10 minutes waiting for someone else to join so you can go marine).
This is the first build of Combat that I've seen where the balance isn't heavily shifted towards one team or another. As a result, I'm enjoying playing both sides equally. I chose Kharaa due to its fun and diversity, but overall I'd choose "Both"
Marines, i love it when the commander gets motion tracking early in game, makes killing skulks a walk in the park
Playing marines with a good commander is an excellent experience, but playing marines with a crap commander is terrible. I generally go marine if I see there is someone I know can command well, and go alien otherwise. At least as an alien, I have some options to save the game if there are some idiots on my team.
Interesting to note that sometimes players stack marines/aliens but none the less, this nearly 50/50 is impressive.
Kharaa, just because it's different then the "first person shooter". Kharaa are "First person biter"!
I don't like playing as humans in any game where i have a choice. NS i am Kharaa, AvP i am a Xenomorph, Starcraft i go Zerg. I find it more interesting playing as a different species( plus crawling on walls = win).
kharaa. marines are too violent... shooting things with theirs guns....
Aliens, because they're far far more diverse. Rines have walking and JPing, where aliens have celerity running, bunny hopping, leaping, blinking, and ho∨aring. Rines have shotty or HMG (GL I guess if you're godlike), versus aliens who have both a variety of attacks, and have to combine them in a quick sequence of nontrivial moves (eg. blink+slash, leap+bite, umbra+dive+bite, leap+xeno+bite, web+spit).
I like playing aliens since 1.04 to 2.0 but since 3.0 I been commanding often and playing on marines often too. Basicly I'll play aliens if nobody I know is on marine team and marines if I feel like commanding.
depends, but for me, basic marine > skulk in terms of fun. however, the most enjoyable class is fade. so it's a tough decision. i'll say marines, killing helpless gorges is just the best way to relax after school.
I started playing this game because of the squad based commander controlled combat type system thingy.
MARINE
In every FPS game I've ever played, well save UT/Quakeish games(spam), I've always longed for teamates that used squad based tactics. Even in a higher clan play I never found anyone that played in a squad, it was always basically do what you do best in clan games. Granted, I'm not a part of the NS clan scene, and I would definately like to someday, I don't know exactly how it is in NS. But for general pub play, I've seen more organized tactics and squad play than in any other game EVER. Maybe it's the commander, maybe it's playing with other liked minded fans of the movie "Aliens" (don't lie).... but people seem to just play in squads by default... and when the commander steps in and ENFORCES squad tactics... well, those marines are a true force to be reckoned with.
I love playing both sides of the NS spectrum, but Marines much more. Not to mention playing with other Aliens fans.... DONT LIE!!!!!

I like boths, boths are very original. Marines with the comm, and aliens with their playstyle. I voted aliens tho, i think they are what makes ns so special. Lot of games have marines, but such an original aliens, and their gamplay who requires a lot of teamplay , i can only say that: I LIKE THEM ^^
I like playing as the Kharaa. I like being able to ambush and not having to rely on someone to weld me or medpack me to get my health back. The independant feel of the Kharaa is nice. Except sometimes its frustrating when it gets too independant (eg. Lots of people on the team res whoring and then complaining that the rest of the team did not get the upgrade chambers and they died because of them).
I also don't really like the fact that aliens have only 3 (4 if you count the 10 damage parasite) ranged attacks (spore, spit, acid rocket) which arn't even very effective. Spores are good for groups of marines, but will most likely not kill them, but rather weaken. Spit travels too slow to be effective, but its a gorge weapon, so its ok. Acid rocket travels a bit too slow (I can still dodge it from the end of a hall), and only does 25 damage.
I miss spikes and the fact that they were instant 16 damage. The lerk does need a change in weaponry, but the lerk is more of a 1/2 hive creature. Bite is good for close range fighting (which the lerk should not be doing much of, but usually cannot be avoided after getting stuck on a marine slowing his speed to almost nill). Spores are good for clearing out areas where marines might be building (too bad they don't stack that would be devistating). Umbra WAS good for protecting the higher lifeforms or even itself from fire. Primal Scream is... ok. It could really use either an adren cut, or a longer effect time. (The other aliens screaming back was cool at first, but now that you have to spam PS just to make it useful it gets really loud and annoying very quickly)
Heh... I think I wrote too much and in the wrong topic for this discussion.

so i voted null
I'd be concerned if there was a 60/40 split or worse.

i prefer not relying on someone totally
st4x = teh lose
