Actualy, execpt for the weapon renders, I don't recall ever seeing an action shot of a tripmine
hopefully it'll be a case of the marines can see the lasers but the aliens cannot... it should be a case of the aliens can see them but dont know what they are (but as this is impossible becos all the alien players are human and WILL know what they are) i think it should only be fair that they cannot see them but they CAN however see the actualy mine
but this is speculation..prehaps a member of the DEV team will clear this matter up
Tripmines that are placed on a ceiling or wall will emit a laser. Ones that are placed on the ground will arm and will NOT emit a laser. Mines beep if a marine walks over or "trips" the mine but they will not explode. Mines can deal friendly damage if an alien happens to walk into one among a group of marines though. Incorrectly placed tripmines (ie: ones that are half on and half off a platform) will beep a few warnings and then proceed to explode.
Again, from what I understood from my readings.
EDIT: Forgot the whole point. I think aliens can see the lasers.
I would say because it acts as a deterant rather then something to kill. Id rather have them visibal, therefor if the aliens see them, they wont go in that direction. You could maybe divert them to a siege tower, or have a wall of trips then further behind, some trips on the floor (soz this is kinda for the tactics forum but im stating for the reason of the topic) I figure that the ones planted on the floor are the ones for killing, imo.

Whereas, if the mine goes off, someone has to haul their duff out into indian country to replant the mines.
