The GL model is an original creation that was made for NS's <i>heavy machine gun</i>, until a different style HMG was made and used instead. There wasn't time to create a different model for the GL, so the old HMG model was tweaked a bit and used for it instead.

it has a 20mm grenade launcher, and a 5.56 nato round barrel, so i was thinking it might have been the inspiration for the GL, or for that matter, the HWG
