<div class="IPBDescription">new map</div> Ok guys, I've been making NS maps in my spare time for a while now - haven't really finished any because I get bored with an idea and think up something new or better...

what I want to know is - What do you want to see in a map? What sort of place? What sort of crazy environment do you want (keeping it within the confines of the ns world of course).. what are us mappers doing wrong? what can we do better?

You tell me what you want - and I'll make it for you...and if anyone mentions a big purple monkey-dishwasher...I'll be less than happy...

    i wanna see a room with a fade on the table, arms spread out, with its chest open and theres blood and body parts all over the floor n_n... and there should be a swinging light too ^_^

    Itll probably be some sort of industrial facility, becuase thats what ns is. However would like to see one that looks like it could work and each room has a perpous and follows obviously from the others. Eg a prodcution line where you start with raw materials and at the end see the finnished thing.

    <b>Kolokol</b> - that's always been my biggest gripe with ns and always my biggest aim... ns maps are nice looking but they don't seem to have much purpose to them..I've always, in my maps, seeked to have purpose with each room. My map, which some may remember - ns_odlers, was like that.. a marine sector with a mess hall and bunk room etc and then research labs and a containment area etc etc...without purpose, new maps are just going to be rehashed ideas of old maps even if the author says "this is a new spaceship" or whatever..

    <b>nz-nexus</b> - um..yes...well...I've often wondered how ns would go with half-flooded areas...what the gameplay would be like with everyone slowed down like that...only one way to find out...

    <b>Silentdeath</b> - That wouldn't be hard to model at all..would be a nice effect actually...if I go back to my ns_odlers (oxygen dependent lifeform environment - research station...a mouthful I know..) I could definately use that in the labs...

    <b>Blackplague</b> - The swinging light wouldn't be that hard to fake actually..you could do it with about 10 light_spots...each pointed a fraction further..then just use a custom light fx and time it to a swinging light...don't know if it's worth it for the amount of entities it would need...

    comment about that water filled room... marines can't fire their weapons underwater!!! Yeah I know its silly with their furutistic looking 2nd world war lmg (hmm a contradiction there aint it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) and other futuristic stuff.
    But anyway it would be very pro alien since all they can use are knifes and 1 grenade?

    What I would like to see is a room with lot's water dripping from the ceiling and the drips creating a dripping sound (instead of using an ambience) and a water ring on impact or is this more for the particle zoo/hl2 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> (are you still working on the particle zoo btw <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> I havent been following the mapping forum lately)

    Hmm... I've got a bunker/marine start going on... I'll post a piccy asap to see if you'd like to use it (as I still can't get the compilations to go right 0o')

    How about like... an icy cavern thing... where the aliens start. Floor could have 1/10th the normal friction, making it a fun, but difficult, battle arena!

    Also, how about a conveyor belt line... marines have a constant supply of 1 SG every 5 seconds as long as they keep the "machines" alive!

    it would be neat if there were some areas with water that would make it impossible for marine to shoot, unless they jumped from one table to another or some sort. and maybe even a vent coming out in the water so you could see scenes of marines firing panicky into the waters: "the pirhana skulks, they're everywhere!! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> "

    as for other theme ideas, i'd like to see something with an epic feel, like a cathedral or something big in a colony ship.
    and kitchens! why aren't there any kitchens? think of the one in jurassic park 2, where the velociraptors are trying to catch the kids, the idea could translate even better to NS due to vents and areas that skulks could duck through faster than marines...

    i'll try to think of some more.

    Make a map with many many rooms, well whem marines enter some of the rooms a laser detects theyr movements that they are inside. And then suddenly all vents and all doors closing fast. The lamps shutdown slow and turning off the lighting completly for darkness. Well like u know.. i have tested this allready : In TOTALLY-DARK areas with no light, it's possible to see the water anyway. So marines can also see where they are but only the water. NExt important thing should be the sounds. Scary so they scares my pants -off me. If this generates good and everything works with the scripted sequences. Well hell, no everybody gonna get panic in the map.

    Call the map NS_PANICROOM..just an idea.. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    A room... not just a room, but a room where all kinds of industrial machines are. With sparks all over and a dark background. Scary ambience of course. And you can't hear that much since all machines are busy, so both aliens and marines shall get it a little hard since they can't hear anyone coming (or almost can't hear, anyway the machines are loud <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> !).

    Something like that was in my mind.

    this is all good guys...not that I'm gonna use all of it..but at least everyone is thinking creatively...there is nothing stopping any of you making some of these maps!
