6 or so months before release, myself. of course, the forums got whiped then (and so did the original "war stories" thread about NS games in versions long gone by...) so i had to re-sign up for them (everyone did)
*begins to remember early versions* Lousy JP bug... Lousy hive-bound alien life forms... Lousy 1 hive lockdowns... Lousy alien resource system, allowing only one gorge...
I don't know if I count as a <i>really</i> old timer, but I was around about a month before 1.0's release and I played it on release. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I love these forums, it's like my second home. I spent 99% of my browsing time here, and I'm hoping that that doesn't have to change. I spend most of my time in Off-Topic.
(If anyone cares to comment on my postcount: I had it reset. Can't remember what my old count was, and I don't really care.)

As the forum grew and more moderators were recruited the general consensus was to come down hard on general messing around and so called noobishness as not to end up like the CS or DOD forums. That left no room for "in" jokes and horseplay as such which was part of the charm of belonging to the NS community.
As the forum grew bigger I think alot of us lost that close community feeling and moved on to other things. As a result most of the vetran posters visit from time to time but never stop long. Thats just the way it is... <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> I think I remember seeing stuff like this a looongg while back. Being mainly a S&I and general forum poster (pre-cesspool days), I would only occasionally dip into off topic. The first time I did I read a rather bitter post by several oldtimers, accusing the moderators of destroying their fun by being nazi's etc etc and posting a link to another forum where they were heading off to. Basically a "screw this forum, we're out of here, whose coming thread". Several people agreed and headed off, the mods defended themselves and everyone else waved.
That post convinced me that the NS community was collapsing, and I felt depressed all day - hell I'd just got here. I think one of the guys who left was the man who created the post-ur-pic thread, and that guy who started that massive 3 word game......
Over here ^_^ Same story as someone before: Got the NS1.0 installer on halloween (omg I still remember the day I waited until 3AM to get the first copies!) but only heard of the forums after a month or so..
one year one day for me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Even though I registered pretty early on, I never really posted all that much. Lurking has always been my style *snicker*
But I still have fond memories of the good ol' days.
Why, it seems like only yesterday JediYoshi was in the Australian clan -/AUS/-......even though he is from the US. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
*sob* I think I have something in my eye.
I love yous all mans!!!!!111

Most people who used to go to every forum (or many) have pretty much reduced the # of forums they visit down to 1-2. I know this is true for me (I used to read New, Gen. Discussion, Tech Support, S&I (stopped after about 2 weeks, I couldn't stand the stupid), Discussion). Now I visit here primarily and General whenever I have a shred of patience.
Like most people said, the community has really changed. This isn't the same group of people that I started playing NS with. Most of my questions I had (reason why I joined) have been answered, or are no longer valid (1.0x is now well over a year old). What is nice, is that people like JediYoshi (he's been here since FOREVER) and a few others (mostly Mods and Admins) are constantly keeping the spirit of the old forums alive. The mod is called Natural Selection, the forums just happen to follow the same rules as well.
Yeah, I know I had a serious case of real life for a while (homeless <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->). Still its mostly sorted now so I'm back with a vengeance.
It is nice to see some of the old faces now and then, theres some really lovely people on here who speak a lot of sense. Think it was better in the old days but then Im looking through rose tinted night vision goggles.
I still remember how shocked I was when I heard you were as young as you are JediYoshi, was really impressed. Although it makes sense considering how many 40yr old's there are that act about 5.

yah, these frums have grown, just a little <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
however, you also have to remember the number of people with 0 - 5 posts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
There are all the people that post one stupid thing, and never reply.
There are the poeple that post once in tech help, only to never reply.
And then there are the people that just sign up, and never post.
Its kinda interesting <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
yah, the forum population doubled in around 1 month This is ofcourse due to the release, as well as MonsE's PR Blitz... ahhhh, pr blitz
i signed up on the 24th july 2003, but i've been reading the forums since about march/april. i've been playing since 1.02/1.03, i forget which one thing that does annoy me is that everye calls the 1.0-1.04 era just 1.04, as if there were no patches before it.
i never heard about nt until jefe told (more like yelled) me to get it in math class ... i still remember my first question: "so ... the aliens run around biting the marines units?"
started pubbing early 1.04 registered for forums sometime later
I'm still here, although I've been a lerker for most of the time, I go on random posting sprees sometimes though... o.O ...and I found NS a few months before it was released, actually quite a while before it was released, 6 or 8 months or so, through a friend, can't really remember when I signed up for the forums though... *shrugs*
Lurked the forums from 1.00 onwards and registered later. But still here. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

We are only a month and a half apart, and yet his number is 4 times as high as mine. Sure were a lot of people who joined in the meantime.
