    So that the Aliens can't go from hive 1 to hive 3 at 5 minutes in to the game.

    because there would be no need for higher life forms duh...xeno rush at the 5 min mark, with dc mc and sc upgrades!

    Because it would add an alternative style of gameplay on the aliens side. Rather than having one person save for hive and one person save for fade, two people might save for the hive, so that even if one of them is lost mid-build, there is the other one to defend. It would also make MC first even more viable with tournament mode on, since biting the building hives or having them be attacked lets you teleport all the way across the map to them. It would be like rushing early PGs for the marines.

    And we can't have that.

    We like things to stay the same.

    Sure.. let us build multiple hives again like in 1.04. But then, also make the hive 80 res again.

    Thats like asking why cant marines upgrade heavy armour before getting an advanced armoury.

    Well, if the aliens could communicate, get enough res 2 build 2 hives at once all before 5 min, AND defend them and more than likely bypass the 1st chamber or fade, they deserve a 5 min 3 hive. Besides if you spent all your res/time on 3 hives in the first 5 min, all you will have access to is unupgraded 3 hive skulks. I think its fair, reward those who can work as a team to get something going.

    If you can build multiple hives at once, the hive build time will have to be increased.

    A lot. (And possibly the resource cost)


    Otherwise it'd work perfectly.

    hives are kinda like armory + armslab + protolab + IP in one.
    Marines cant build prototype lab from start, so cant aliens spawn 2 hives in 5 minutes.

    The same reason marines can't just pay extra money and go straight to Level 3 upgrades, for lack of a better example. If you could build 2 hives instead of one then aliens would start getting 2 hive hoarders instead(especially in larger games) and aliens would have 3 hives in 5-6 minutes.

    Actually, marines CAN pay more money to get faster upgrades. A second arms lab will speed up your upgrading. OF course, most comms don't have the res to do that. I would have no problem making 2 hives buildable at the same time if the following changes were implemented:

    1) The third hive would cost more than the second hive, and the second hive costs remain unchanged.
    2) The third hive would take longer to put up than the second hive.

    Are we talking about a clan match or what here? If it's a clan match, aliens could use one of the gorges to get another hive going, and still have two fades to defend. No one needs res nodes with three hives.

    If it's a public game, since there are so many players, you could have 4 fades, tons of nodes, and 2 hives going up at the same time. Very unfair to marines.

    6v6 is unbalanced for public games.

    Also, why don't we let marines upgrade two things at a time per arms lab?

    Consider the number of clan/pug games vs big games....

    Besides that, they're both pretty fine, and this would unbalance one while not giving any benefit to the other.
