<div class="IPBDescription">more fun from the original manual!</div> From the observation of the gorge in the original manual:

Deej slapped the trip mine onto the bottom sill of the window so only two of its legs were gripping. "Back off!" he yelled, and we ran back into the lab room. Mines self-detonate if placed "incorrectly". It beeped a few times in warning. We expected shards to come with the explosion – but there was only the mine's concussion, and then a ripping sound. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I guess most of you know how 1.0x's mines work. Flat on ground or surface makes it a proximity mine. On walls (and certain slants) makes it a trip mine complete with red laz0r. Anything else, the mine will blow up in your face. Now, this bit from the manual makes it seem like this third "option" was done on purpose. Was this a 'feature'?

One and the same.
:( The laz00rb33mz were totally radical.
As for "incorrectly" using mines to blow things up, sounds cool. Kind of like a welder-point, except you detonate the mine to open it.
But since we already have weld points, and your guns break glass just fine...
/Remembers all those horrible experiences as l4m0rz placed those mines to ceiling -just try that in atmos. 10 res wasted. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

But when we do it ingame, it explodes almost instantaneously. The way the story was written, it almost seems like its controlled

Try putting them on the side of the hive. I did that once, shortly we killled the hive and they were floating in mid air.
While talking we are talking about mines I saw several screenies of mine staircases and crazy patterns in the closed beta. Can we do that in this version? I'm yet to see it.
You can do mine stairs, yeah. Pretty easy and rather powerful.

ok... so player a puts down a mine. player b runs up, welds it, and then puts it down again to steal the frag. i think weldable mines would just increase the things for lamers to do to **** ppl off
Why can't the mines, when placed Vertica,l be motion sensitive, any alien movement within say 5 Units causes it to go off.
Horizontal they are still trip, Vertical they are Motion Sensitive in a small area around the mine. This way they don't need to be touched to go off, just need to be close to it.
The reason I post this is because they would be very useful to block off halls or doors. Place 2 on each side of the wall and its a death trap for any foolish SKulk runing down without looking.

Why not make it client side?
The server crashed but I think I made my point.

you cant make staircases with mines anymore due to the building proximity rules. Cant place a mine close to another mine or it wont actually plant. Just go and try it.
I dont mind getting rid of the lasers but i liked their effect. Proximity mines suck. You just needed 1 mine in the middle of a vent to get rid of skulks. now you need like 4.
Invisible lazer beams?
