Cmd_maxbackup Hit ?

Is anyone else getting kicked out of servers constantly with an error screen that says CMD_MAXBACKUP hit? It seems like I play on average for like 5 minutes, then get booted with this stupid error. It doesnt seem to be related to any action on my part, and it all started with beta 4. I have never used any hacks or scripts or whatever, so I really dont know what it could be.
I have searched for this, and there are only like 6 google hits, and one post in these forums but no one has been able to contribute much to it. I know that this should probably belong in the technical help, but I was more curious if there was anyone else with this error, and if so to discuss it. It seems everyone I have talked to has no idea how to fix it, but maybe if more people saw it, there might be a solution?
Thanks for your time.

Other players were connecting ok at the time. Not sure what caused this for this one client. I have downloads/uploads disabled and I'm running amxx and metamodx. The 'too many cmds' errors seem to indicate a flood of some kind of data from the client end. Any ideas what causes this?
im not running any special configs, hacks, or what have you. Its a straight install off of steam, and the latest NS 3 + NS4 + NS4a install.
I am behind a firewall of some sort, since I'm playing from work. I dont have the specifications for that.
I find that the one server by NSA with the CS-CO_ moded missions does NOT cause this problem.
I also find that most NS_ map servers do NOT cause this problem. But most, if not all, CO_ map servers do.
(thanks billcat, for hearing my cry for help)
Anyone have some insight into what we can fix here to make this not happen for clients?
cl_cmdbackup 2
the default should be 2, check your config :E
cl_resend
should be 2 also.
I'll go in and change those two values, and join some CO_ stuff, and tell you how it works out.
EDIT:
to be clear, its cl_cmdbackup, not cmd_backup
also, my DEFAULT cl_resend is 10.0 (just changed it to 2)
DAMN, I tried with these new values, and it crashed again 2 minutes in.
Its still random-- I got to play one map for like 30 mins. But I just had a NS_ map kick me, in about 5 minutes in. So its not just CO_, just happens more on CO_
Your cl_cmdrate should be above your FPS, so 101 if you get 100 fps.
Rate should be 25000.
------------------------------
These settings are for broadband (256k and higher) and 56k / ISDN need different settings.
Anyhow, I chose those settings-- but I still get kicked on occasion. Seemed like maybe less? Not sure.
and borrow some experts config
I'll alter mine to suit then PM you with the link.
EDIT: Also GFX Card, Ram & Cpu specs will help, average FPS & Soundcard too <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Actiontek modems may cause this and there is no solutions for them.
You also need to go to www.dslreports.com and run their tweaktest and adjust your mtu and window size as they recommend - you should have no loss or it isn't adjusted right.
CMD_MAXBACKUP hit:
When an update is sent to the server, it includes some extra movements that you've made so the server can keep predicting what you are doing even if there is packetloss.
The error is generated because the server did not get an update in time and exhausted all the regular commands and all the backup commands (or most of the packets it's getting are bad).
Here is a detailed description of this:
If you are running faster than 30 frames per second (cl_cmdrate) , then multiple commands will be put into some packets.
You can change the rate of sending command packets to the server by setting the cl_cmdrate CVAR.
In addition, with each command, we re-send the last few previous movement commands (in case there is packet loss) so that we can keep moving smoothly in the face of minor network problems.
The default number of "backup" commands that we send is 2, but you can change this number by setting cl_cmdbackup to another number.
You can send more than 8 backup commands, but you should note that sending backup commands will increase your outgoing bandwidth usage (and thereby add to loss).
Basically this error is caused by poor communication from you to the server. You get kicked because the server is unable to predict where you are and what you are doing.
Recommendations:
set the following:
* cl_updaterate 20
* cl_cmdrate 30
* cl_cmdbackup 2
* rate 7500
and these:
* Kill any P2P programs you have running
* scan your computers for spyware and virus
* adjust your connection settings at www.dslreports.com for 0 percent loss
* disable QoS and wireless zero configuration
* make sure your router and modem have the latest firmware
* do not use proxy ISP services<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

I downloaded DR TCP and set what values I could there. I'm restarting and testing with that.
All my CVARS matched what you said already except rate which had been put to 9999 during some tests I was running trying to fix this problem. Its now at 7500.
Wish me luck.
i'll need to persue the idea that its something to do with the company firewall or routers next.
