I know how to set a server and have got one running.
Now I'm just wondering will my connection be good enough to host a game via the internet.
I have a amd2500+ server with very good parts. Just my connection is about 250kilobits upload. Is this good enough to host a server? Also, I'm runnng a webserver that uses a lot of MySQL but doesn't get much traffic at the same time.
So do you think I could host my own dedicated server with a max of 20 players?
Or would I have to get a dedicated line just for my server?
If I do need a new line what should I get?

250kilobits is insufficient. Lets take a look:
An average CS 18 man public for me peaks at about 5k/s per player in, 6k/s per player out. On average its around 3-4k/s in, 4-5k/s out. NS uses a bit more bandwidth & resources than CS, so expect about this or more.
So considering:
6k/s per play out... 6 x 8 = 480kbps
Conclude what you want from this, but I'd say you want at least a 500kbps upstream to do good, probably quite a bit more to be safe.
Also, I don't know about you, but...
I ran a 14 man NS server on my Barton 3000+ box on FreeBSD 5.2.1. I received about 60-75% cpu usage, I don't even think I could run a 20 man NS on it. Are you confident you can run a 20 man NS on the machine, disregarding bandwidth?

Thanks, the fasted internet I can get here is DSL 256k upload, unless I want to buy a T1 line for 1000 dollars. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
