Experiences running an ns server
I've been running an NS server since 120pm PST 10/31/02 and have noticed a couple things that might help some people out. I run a dual P3 533Mhz box with 512 mb ram on dual OC12's off the verio.net backbone down in San Diego and pings have definately been an issue. It is all processor based tho like Flayra says so I would recommend keeping your player loads down to 12 players until the new patch comes out. Another thing I've noticed is that there is not a lot of lit on the whole configuration process. I was wondering if the NS team will be releasing a faq on how to tweak NS servers and such? I had to dig around just to find the vars file heh. Just some friendly thoughts on the server situation. Having played HL and mods since the beginning I would have to say that this mod is by far the most interesting and fun to play, so keep up the good work guys.

There are many complaints about the Aliens being weaker than the Marines. Because of this teams become top heavy with 15 marines and 9 aliens (i run a 24 player server). Here is my thought on this: Why would an alien race invade us if they were weaker than us? In my opinion they should be stronger, more capable of protecting themselves.
Hopefully I'll be able to run a 32 player server (I think that number is right). I don't see how this game is fun with few players. Then again I haven't played it yet, I'm just running a server.
In addition, this is a new mod to many people. Everyone has played a game with guns, that's what people know, so that's why they join the marine side. Aliens take getting use to, especially with melee attacks and the various subtle ablities. I think once people see how cool the aliens are and learn what each ability does, the balance issues will disappear.
Just my two cents.

I don't know all the details since I haven't played the game yet, but I don't see this happening. Most of the people out there playing this game won't delve into the aspects of the aliens if they can get quick and easy frags with a Marine.

That's the real problem!
You can't get the old "if it moves, shoot, if not, shoot" way out of their heads.
I've played only as an alien and most of the games i can't find this thing called Teamwork.
I think 80% of the players (or more) are very good at games like quake3arena, but at games like Natural Selection... in a few weeks the "Frag-Counting-Players" will leave this Mod and the rest of us can start to enjoy the game

The aliens kinda remind me of the Vampires in VS. Once you know how to uses em you can "slay" the marines fairly easily.
