because when you watch them play, you wonder if they actually have human fingers and reflexes... If you ask me it's much more impressive than any FPS competitive clan.

It was best when we had a stream of it, and would talk about it in IRC. Great fun.

The sad thing is what happens when starcraft become dated tech? Does he learn the next big game and risk never being as good as he was back in the day, or just retire?

Korea has messed up prespectives (although that could be argued for both american and canadian sports leages too )

StarCraft is way dated. Its played as a sport there, not as a novelty. Sports have a significantly longer time in the public eye, and it'll take a while 'til SC fades as a spectator sport and something new comes up - with the same combination of significant depth, room for skill developement and a basic, appealing simplicity :o

They mentioned it on Gamer TV recently too. Nice to see that gamers get some respect at least.

i would say appealing complexity rather, SC is the chess of board games

Really, where does all that money go?

Maybe appartments are super expensive over there... or they all have nasty drug habits.

Chess is the chess of board games. I think you meant online games. And the primary attribute of to a large extent chess, and to a bit smaller extent SC (beause it involves more hand/eye coordination) is a transparent simplicity. That out of these transparent and simplistic rules an endless amount of combinations can arise is what makes that simplicity appealing, and not just lacking in depth.

There are tennis shoes and Doritos bags with StarCraft characters on them in South Korea. It's a huge part of the popular culture. While it's cool, it's also almost frightening.

I'm not so sure about that. MP qualities aside, Star Craft has a pretty damn good story, so it's in my eyes not weirder than Star Wars merchandise. Hell, I remember having slippers with Mario on them when I was a kid.

the fact that StarCraft is played like a sport shows just how well constructed the game is.

You'd think after 1000's of matches they would've found some ballance issue, however insignificant, and brought it forward. Guess not. (That or they just tell Blizzard in private and Blizzard doesn't let us know who found what)

Construct a FPS or a RPG as well crafted (HA!) as starcraft and you can expect them to become sports in some countries, as well.

Haha, thats Boxer. He's one of the best Terran players in StarCraft/Brood war. There is an actual tournament held every year to win money, sort of like a "Gaming Olympics" WCG
