is it steam or just me?
i haven't played in a while, and i recently reformatted, so i had to install a fresh version of steam. it works fine normally, but when i enable EAX and A3D i get problems. Steam starts up fine, but whenever i mouse over the button, i get an error message that says an error has occurred in HL launcher. it does this in CS with eax/a3d enabled as well. is this a steam issue or am i missing something? i have all of the latest drivers, as well as updates for windows, and eax/a3d works well in other games.

EAX and A3D tend to make things break...

    don't use em

you can try messing around turning on one/the other and seeing if it works.

If not, jsut turn em off.

but i've always used them, and i don't see why they should not work now.

btw i am using the on-board sound from an abit nf7-s. which has always worked fine with hl and still manages to do so with other games

Yet multiple people have complained of various errors involving EAX, E3D and other sound related problems while using that precise motherboard.

I honestly cant detect the difference with them on or off - so go off
