"i told you so!" moments

<div class="IPBDescription">Commander-grunt relationships strained.</div>I've had a couple of "I told you so!" moments, but the one I had a couple of mintues ago was the best..

I'm a marine on Bast and I've got a HMG and Heavy Armor. We know as a team that one hive (they've got 3) is practically undefended. Our commander isnt the greatest, but hes getting the hang of it. We had one guy constantly spamming "Jetpack plz" so it was a nightmare getting stuff from him. Anyway. I walk down the ramp into the revolving door near the marine base. I press the button and just as the corridor it opens into came into view, I saw that it was full of offencive chambers. I open fire with my HMG cut a path through them up to the resource chamber. I open fire on that, and I hear a pretty famous roar. At this point I actually said "Oh no.." out loud. A big, angry Onos runs around the corner, straight at me. And I run out of HMG ammo. I whip out a pistol and start firing, while running for the revolving door button. The door starts turning and the Onos steps inside. By now I'm attacking it with a knife. It steps back to charge at me.. and the door closes, trapping it in the corridor. Lucky escape for me. I yell to the commander for tripmines. This dialog followed..

Me: "Commander, I need tripmines now, theres an Ono on the other side of the revolving door.."
Commander: "Hang on I've got 15 other things to do"
Me: "Yeah but we've got no defence over there. Seriously. Tripmines!"
Commander: *drops Jetpacks* "Hang on, wait a minute!"
Me: "We dont have a minute! Theres a really big, angry cow on the other side of that door and I dont want to be here when it works out where the button is"

Then I hear the sound of the revolving door moving. "Oh no", I say aloud again, as I grab a LMG and run for the ramp. I'm too late. The second I step around the corner I'm smeared against the wall by the angry cow of irony. Luckily the guy who'd been screaming for a jetpack got one and dealth the Onos some HMG justice. After it took out most of our spawns and all of our turrets. Didn't stop me saying a final "I TOLD you so!" before I left the server.

anyone else had moments like this?

A commander can't please everyone and most new marines demand instant gratification or they boot the commander. I am not saying you are one of these people... but there are marines out there like that. The commander needs to take charge from the very begining and let the marines know that if they don;t do as he says they won;t get the back-up they need and will die. A marine should go towards any way points he is given immediately or know that if he does not he want get help as the commanders attention is on his objectives. again not saying you did this... but I have seen this alot and seen many commanders booted for no reason. Unfortunetly what this leads to is commanders having to please the minor requests without being able to take care of immediate concerns. Fortunetly most people don;t know how to play aliens yet so this is not a fatal mistake most of the time.

Oh, I understand that (I'm often the commander myself).. it wasnt the inability of the commander I was really getting at there.. it was just the irony of the situation.

Sometimes commanders can be real a-holes. Last night I was playing as a grunt. I went into battle and got hurt real bad. I was down to only 5 health and I was in enemy territory. I asked for a med pack at my location. No response. I snuck back to spawn thinking I was gonna buy the farm any second now. I finally arrive back at spawn and request a medpack. No response but all sorts of armor and weapons were being tossed down. I asked again. No response. I waited for around a minute or so and asked again. No response. I started watching the clock to see how long it would take this guy to give me a medpack. I waited at spawn for 10 min exactly before I left the game. I had 5 health and asked politely(no I did not demand repeatedly)for a overall time of something like 15 or 20 min. I gave up and left the game.

One thing I hate as being commander is when people rush off, get hurt, and then expect me to drop them a health back. If you want stuff, go to the main base. End of discussion. Unless your part of a coordinated assault I will not drop stuff for you in the middle of nowhere.

As commander, I've been noticing that the aliens are getting harder and harder to fight..even with the resources bugged. After being commander and winning or loosing, I gotta just be a marine for a while to let my ulcers heal. Being commander is STRESSFUL!
