_my_ tale from the frontline

N00bs whine about aliens, pts own them
Well it appears the Tales from the Frontline thread is gone... but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna post my cool story. I'll just give you a little intro....

Time: Night (I can't remember)
Location: #naturalselection channel
Subject: "OMG MARRINES R OVERPOWERRED!1!!"
Subject #2: "OMG STOOPID TURENTS!!!1"
Subject #3: Monse: "Make a game, 3 aliens (us PTs) vs. 10 marines. We will own you."

It was a cold night, of whiners and crap. Those bastiches couldn't stop shouting about how unbalanced the game was.... or so they thought. We were still arguing over stuff. Most of the heated discussion was on how "powerful" turrets were. We (Quad, me, some PTs, and a few others. Okay I admit it, I was saying that Turrets were powerful, until Greedo came in and said "No.". Then I said "Well actually Greedo IS right...") were trying to get them to realize aliens were powerful, just required skill.

Anonymous Idiot #1 (AI#1): "The aliens turrets never hit, I went up and knifed one to death."
Me: "########."

Well that was just one part... We later got into a discussion about skill...

AI#1: "Marines don't require any skill. They just get heavy armor, HMG's, and grenade launchers and they win."
Me: "Yeah, that's all! All they have to do is get Heavy armor, HMG's, and grenade launchers! It's that easy! And by the way, to win a football game, all you have to do is tackle the quarterback before they get to run or pass while on D, and score whenever you're on O! That's all you have to do, guys!"
Greedo: "The aliens require more skill. Marines rely on tactics. They have a commander too. When Marines build a bunch of seige turrets and defend them both with manpower and turrets, that's teamwork."
Anonymous Idiot #2 (AI#2): "No, that's spam and gheyness."
Greedo: "...."
AI#1: "Yeah, and it's just one heavy armor marine with a grenade launcher. It's one person."
Greedo: "Then that's a single person, not teamwork."

Soon... Monse said the words.
Monse: "Get us on a server. We'll be aliens. We'll kill you all, easy."
I took this opportunity.
Me: "Want me to tell Blahman to empty his server?"
Monse: "Surge: Yes. "
Me: "Really? Cool..."

I join Blahman's server and told him how it was. The story and all. I left, he left, we went to Teh Über Sekrat Hideout™ and invited some newbies in. This was going to be good.

It took a while but we finally got it organized. The PTs were: Humbaba, MonsE, Silverfox, Greedo (I think), and a couple others. Tell me if I forget you. Then it was me, Quad, Alius, Alizom (or something like that), and a few others. In all, 14 people. 7 were Playtesters. The other 7 were non-PTs, which included Quad, Alius, Alizom, possibly wolfyz, and JediYoshi.

We jumped into Blahman's server once the PW was removed after 7 PTs were in. The map up was KFS's excellent ns_eclipse (apparently Blahman must love this map. It had been the only map on there for the whole day). We waited in the Readyroom until the people arrived, talking a bit (I sprayed Chibigorge at this point). Once we were all in, it was time to r0xx0r.

I walked into the Marines entrance. Quad, Alius, and Alizom followed. I believe wolfyz might've been there if I remember correctly.
"Who's commander?" Quad asked as he keyed his radio.
"I'll be it..." I volunteered, as I fumbled with my radio (stupidly as you will see up ahead. I'll explain it after this first story).

"Let's move out!" The marine voice said.
"Okay, I'm going there. Right-o... hmm let's see." I had somewhat been commander before. The whole thing just came naturally to me. I guess it comes naturally if you enjoy doing it. I quickly plopped down some blueprints for a couple infantry portals. "Get those up. Here, just in case..." I dropped 4 ammo boxes. They would help a little. As for the PTs.... I soon figured out the real truth.

MonsE never lies.

The marines ran over to the Inf. Portals, working on 'em. "Hurry up with those, gotta get some turrets up, just in case they rush." A few seconds after I said this, around 4 or 5 skulks rushed into our "base".

"........What the hell?" I blinked, "Get those things set up fast. Shoot them- Shi-.... Ah man...."
Only one portal was up and it was being chewed on by Monse and Humbaba. Realizing my team wasn't going to be able to build those, I quickly jumped out of the CC, unshouldering my LMG and pulling the trigger.

Bullets churned out at, as I estimated, 20 rounds per second, give or take a few. I nailed Humbaba a few times before running out of ammunition (My teammates were in my line of fire). *click click* Quick as I could, I pulled out my pistol. I pulled the trigger not as fast I could, because that would just throw my aim off (not in recoil, I just somehow found it harder to aim when I went full auto). Didn't hit much, teammates in the way and it was a massacre. We were falling fast. The one infantry portal still stood, allowing teammates to spawn in and fall down instantly.

My pistol clicked. It was probably over. I pulled out my pudgesticker (aka Combat knife) and rushed at Humbaba (who also rushed at me). I quickly ducked, him barely missing my face with his bite. I swung the knife like a vietnam veteran on ecstacy. *Swish* *swish* I crouched down, attempting to slash the aliens around me. *swish* *swish* Grr.... *swish* *CHOMP* "OW!" *snap* *swish* *SQUISH* My errant knife blade slammed into Humbaba, killing him instantly.

"Heh, nice one." he said, milliseconds before Silverfox came and bit me to death. We soon lost.

We were soon back in the Readyroom.
".........." We just sat around a bit.
Monse and a couple other PTs laughed. Monse commented, "That lasted... what, 3 minutes?" into his radio.
"Heh, less than that." I said into my radio, "More like 1 or 2..." I quickly made a note to myself not to be commander when its my first time fighting PTs. We would have to change our tactics a bit. As I said before, Monse never lied. He did own us.

We jumped back in. I went marines again, because the PTs were on aliens.... At this point JediYoshi committed treason and decided that he wanted to win, so he went alien. *shakes fist*

"Okay, here we go." I said. I forgot who the commander was... I think it was wolfyz. Tell me who you were that second time we played, man!
"Commander, let's get one infantry portal and quickly get a turret factory up." I said into my radio piece (which from now on I'll just say "I radioed"). An infantry portal appeared, and we worked on it.

Meanwhile, I waited a minute so I could instantly start the work on the turret factory, and watched my mates' backs. After a minute or so, I heard skulk footsteps again. They were trying to do the same thing...

"Here they come!" I radioed, as I brought my LMG up to my shoulder, crouching.
*plop plop* alien footsteps. The door opened, and Humbaba or Monse showed his ugly face. I opened fire. I think I nicked him once or twice. But he rushed me so I was forced to sidestep and move out of the way. The rest of my team opened fire, and the skulk was soon filled full of lead. We could already tell Humbaba (if that's who it was) was gonna be a pain in the ###.

More skulks came in. We fought furiously, and managed to stave them off.
"Woot! Nice job, team. Now... ah, the turrets." We quickly set up the turrets that had been dropped. Things were going too bad now. The commander soon placed an armory. He was nice enough to give me a shotgun. I filled up my ammo, and went out the right door, Quad in tow.

"Okay, commander. We're going to secure this resource node up ahead." I radioed.
"Right behind you, Surge." Quad radioed. Good to have an IFB clanmate watch your back, nod me. After half a minute of hoofing it, we reached the little bridge thing over the blue electric stuff where the resource node was in the middle of the room.

*Prorschifp* is the only sound I can think of to describe the sound made when the commander drops a blueprint. How true it was once the resource thing appeared. Quad and I went to work on it. I think a guy called Trojan_man was with us, too, but I forgot.

Luckily, I wasn't the token black marine.
Trojan was. A skulk peaked its head out to see us building the node. It came out a bit. I quickly let go of the use key and fired my shotgun. I hit it, but I wasn't close enough to kill it in one hit. It ran off.

"Damn, they know we're here now, Commander." I radioed. The commander built a turret factory, and Quad and I went about setting up turrets around our newly taken node. After one or two, there were one or two left. I radioed.
"Quad, I'm going to go take the horseshoe node. Stay sharp."
"Roger." he replied. He hung around to build the stuff. I hoofed it back to base.

I went through the door and around our node, through the left door.

I walked for a few feet... then...
webs! A gorge had definitely been near our base. I had to get to the horseshoe before he did. A teammate was with me, but his name escapes me at the moment.

After going around the webs, we came to the horseshoe node.
"Commander, node secure. Request tower be built." *Prorschifp* my poorly made sound effect description said as it came down, and we set to work on it. There were only two of us, so I stopped working on it.

"You work on it, I'll cover you." I radioed to him.
Sure enough, a skulk came around the corner at the bottom of the ramp. I unloaded. It attempted to escape, but was unable to outrun shotgun shells. It died. Its friend, seeing how bad-### I was (heehee), decided not to fight yet.

The tower was soon set up and turrets were, too. So far so good. We moved ahead. Quad soon joined up with me and the other guy, followed by Trojan_man or something. We soon came to the Aft Junction resource node. It was taken by those damn dirty apes- I mean, aliens. We unloaded and took it out. Then I got chomped to death soon afterwards.

Yadaa-yadda.... the game went on a while with some fighting.

Unfortuneately, we forgot to secure the hive zones. After being killed by MonseiurEvil and [Rawr]Silverfox ("F'n Rawr!") several times in the computer generator, we knew something was wrong.

Quad and I moved out to retake our resource node we had taken first (the one I talked about first). It was empty. Good deal... We started setting it up. When suddenly the game turned into a movie (this really happened)...

"Raaaaaaaaaawrrrrrrr!"
Quad and I stopped building a moment, blinking. We exchanged glances.
"What was that?" I radioed.
Quad didn't say anything.
"Okay you stay here, I'm gonna go check it out." I walked off toward our base. Nothing. I looked around a bit around the base. Nothing. I walked back to Quad.
"Nothing..." I radioed.
"RAAAAWRRR!" I jumped. Don't only Onos get primal scream?....

I ran back to base to find it being assaulted by an Onos or two.
"AaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAH!" I shouted, "Onos! Primal scream at base! Requesting assistance! Commander, give me some mines!"

I unloaded with my LMG, dealing little damage to the Onos. He turned around and kind of just... looked at me. And then he ran me through. I died.

I soon respawned to find an Onos goring the CC. I jumped behind it and unloaded LMG bullets into it. I ran out of ammo in the clip. I pulled out my pistol in a vain attempt to kill it and fired a few shots.... BLAM....

It died. I blinked.
".....Hm." I said. The other Onos was dead, too. It was around this time that Humbaba found it quite fun to start Xenociding the hell out of our base. I requested some mines from the commander, which I got. I ran over to the left side of our base and placed two on the ground, side by side, two rows. So it looked like...

X X

X X

And then one more on the wall between them. Four landmines and one tripmine. As I walked back toward base, confident, the mines beeped, the friendlyfire system. They did that when marines step on them.

*KABOOM* I barely got back into base when there were huge explosions behind me. *KABOOM* More. I turned around to find Humbaba belly-up on the ground, a skulk. I think he just wanted his belly rubbed, but as far as I knew he was dead. Hey, it gave me the Surge killed Humbaba with mine thing.

"Ha, I cost nothing!" Humbaba typed, in a strange manner...
"You're holding down a button aren't you?" I typed.
"Yah." He said.
"You're also holding off on us aren't you? Going easy?"
"Yeah I've had enough to be Onos a lot." he replied. He then went back to Xenociding us. So was Plaguebearer. Grr...

Nothing much more exciting happened afterwards. Quaddeh got a grenade launcher and starting killing some offense chambers outside our right entrance. The commander dropped me one too, and I quickly went to the left side of our base and dispatched the Defense chambers there.

After a minute, I heard a few primal screams, and knew there were three or four Onos coming. They came in, smacking us down and stuff.

After dying a few times, I realized there wasn't much we could do. I turned to my left and saw a point-blank Onos goring our CC. I quickly had an idea. We might still survive.... MIGHT...

"Commander, build another CC blueprint." I turned tail and ran out of the base.
I got SOO lucky. None of the aliens saw me slipping out. They were busy smashing the CC. I didn't get a reply from the commander... bad sign...

"Where is the CC, commander?" I radioed. Damn he was dead. I was the last one left. Shotgun in hand, I hoofed it towards the Aft Junction. I ran into a Gorge on the way. The pudgy little guy ran off as I tried to kill him, towards some defense chambers. I ran into some webs and couldn't fire at this point. Luckily he didn't turn and shoot me. I quickly went the opposite direction. A skulk jumped out (Monse, I think) of the left door, surprising me, but apparently not my trigger finger.

KABOOM. It fell dead, floored by my hail of shotgun pellets. After a moment I realized there wasn't much I could do.

"You ########!" I typed, "You won't take me alive! Watch me xenocide you all!"
I fell down, dead.... Hm. I guess "kill" in the console was the wrong command for xenocide. The game ended, Aliens winning. A fun game.

To be continued... next stop: ns_bast!

When protecting your main base, put two seige cannons near by to prevent them from building up chambers near by. Also, alot of noobs don't seem to use webbing, but it works extremely well when combined with offensive chambers. If you guys had secured one of the alien hive points, you might have had a change of winning...without xenoside, sporecloud, etc it gets harder for the aliens to take you down.

    My suggestion
    Build base, and turrets
Build 3 resource nodes, and turrets
Take hive location, fortify the hell out of it, and get a transporter between hive location and main base.
ONCE you do this, slowly and carefully expand...

I wasn't asking about tactics, and the buildings weren't a big problem. The grenade launcher took out most of 'em.

I will add the second part in a minute...

Wow. They won with the equivalent of a Zergling rush.

    SKILLZ I TELLS YA! SKILLZ!

As far as I know (and this has been semi-confirmed for me) alien turrets are SUPPOSED to suck. They're just a slowdown factor to make them wait 'til a grenlauncher comes...and by then any Marines trying to kill the turrets should rightly well be Alien-lunch.

I've watched Aliens totally decimate Marines, I've watched the opposite. And this is in just a few games.

It all comes down to who's better.

Though I'm personally a Marine fan because I suck (note: this is not the mod's fault...a fact some people should consider...Jasper) at FPS melee combat.

I would say that Jasper and Gohan are stupid idiots, but that would be against Flayra's rules.

It all boils down to who is better and who has better tactics. The alien turrets, like this guy said, are just supposed to slow you down. How do I know? A PT told me. And PTs know all (PlayTesters). The PTs were aliens, and since they've had 5 months more experience, you'd figure they'd win.

They deserved to win with the rush. I was stupid enough to not put up a factory fast enough.

I'll put up the next part of the story as soon as I get in the mood. All these whiners are getting to me...

Hera is great for Alien rushes without a good commander. Just 5 minutes ago, and of course starting a long time before, me and some others won as aliens 3 times in a row on eclipse as aliens, when the marines had as many as 3 people over us at one time, and aliens almost never had 1 over them. I see it is very obtainable, however, something needs to be done a bit more to shift the balance. I mean we were talking people who piled out a singular door attacking me and 3 other fades bile bombing cause they figured they would kill us, of course the 20 some odd defense chambers, no, but, of course, they never went around to eclipse and tried taking it out. I've said it to many people, Aliens are not weak, they are the expert's weapon. It's like in CS, Scout isn't weak, it's the expert's weapon.

Great story. Rushing is a nice trick, but usually only works once. The second game has usually to be won the hard way round - just like the boys did

Fabulous. Heheheh. Those we're fun games. Plague got a 4 marines dead Xenocide that game. Good times had by all, and I dont think we heard "marines are overpowered" from that particular group AT all from then onward.
