Ns Sounds Like @#$*

Very scratchy sound
Alright so I got the latest drivers for my nForce2 onboard sound, and it didn't change anything. This is very weird because I've never had this problem before, it was only after a reinstall of ns that it came up. Occasionally I would get some scratchy sound that would go away in a minute or so before, but this is way worse. Everything sounds like a bad AM radio and is pretty much no fun to play when you just hear KHSTKHSHSHTKKHSHSTKHS for everything. Anybody else had this problem?

Yes I'm having exactly the same problem... On an nForce2 board as well - haven't experienced this one in any other mod either.
I'm also getting waves of video distortion but haven't checked to see if other mods are doing this.

I just tried updating Directx...no luck

Okay let's look at it like this... It's fine for other mods and Half life sound code probably hasn't been significantly changed for a long time...

Which means the NS lads need to sort something out, probably not even that much of a problem really. We'll have to wait until either more people have this problem or the devs say summat about it though

Well it is onboard and onboard isnt that great. Why not go out and buy a Creative Sound Audigy. Just on cache, if your using WinXP with it well expect to be hearing what your hearing now. XP + CSA isnt very fun.

Well I assume most players have windows xp, and if they have a sound card its most likely a creative...so what is the deal...most players playing with *SKHSKHSHSK*?

I get it too, try to ignore it

I think I've got a quazi-fix. If I play music (specificly "Let it Whip"),or probably any looping sound, while starting up ns the scratchyness doesn't happen. Sometimes I have to restart ns once or twice but after that it's all clean.

I did this and it worked..

Put sound quality on Low pressed Apply

Went back and put it back on High and pressed Apply

Then quit Ns and re-joined the same server and the scartchy sound left.

I fixed this by updating the mobo drivers....try updating everything, not just the sound.
