OK, the LAN is coming up in a month and a half here, and of course there is a case mod contest, which I fully intend to win this year. Theme was an easy choice...
This is where you guys come in. Ideas! We have enourmous amitions, and cheap supplies of just about everything (paint, mod parts, tools, etc), so we can go big on this. what we are making is a case mod based on NS, and I am open to any suggestions. I'll start off by throwing out some ideas we have so far.
- The Arms Lab. Just watch it deploy, and imagine it in real life. Yes, I am serious <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
- Having large alien tentacles wrapping around a case, with wiring showing through, glowing from the inside, erie noises, etc
- A mouse made to look like a miniature turret factory
- Power buttons etched out like command console buttons
Now, the only thing I don't want to hear is "OMG< MAEK TEH COMMAND CONSOLE!". That is one thing that is a wee bit too much for us <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> So, post ideas, drawings, whatever you may have ideas for. Im about to go out and pick out some initial supplies here.

Make the keyboard an infested keyboard like one of the textures you can use when making a map. Wewt!

Skulk Teeth around the floppy disk or the monitor!

- Buy a <a href='http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/keyboards/5c3f/' target='_blank'>lighted keyboard</a>. Repaint the outer plastic with a TSA theme. Detailing the keys is optional, but the borders around comm console icon's might be good. The mouse could have a window cut into it with the TSA logo forsted onto it. Then have blue leds in the mouse.
- Mod your monitor too! While the casing could be marine themed, the monitor could be aliens. Don't hide the cable connecting you monitor to your case. Make it look like a vine thing and show it off. Cut a hole in the side of your monitor and cover it with a fabric or latex or something that's been painted like the hive. Light the inside of the case with red and yellow lights. Paint on infestation to monitor. Voila!
- Make the case marine themed, but I don't think it's a good idea to copy a structure wholesale. Incorporating moving things on it would certainly be interesting though. Maybe a piston movement like the TF when it's upgrading. Something popping up would be fun too, like the Arms Lab depoloymeent animation.
- How about a roller door that you can open to reveal the internals of the casing, or maybe it would reveal a case window with the TSA logo frosted on it. Dunno if you can get roller doors that small though. I say roller doors cause you can see these sectioned thingies on the marine structure textures which kinda remind me or them.
- Cover up your drive bays/power button access with a swinging door. Use a door that looks like one of the "wings" on the proto lab. You know with those big chunky hinges? Another cool idea you could do with it is place the power button on the panel that swings out.

<b>Keyboard</b>
Certain keys etched with the CC buttons, bound to perform certain commands (NS related obviously)
<b>Mouse</b>
The idea of a turret factory mouse is out of proportion, but something else like a mouse skinned (maybe with silk screen or paint with a matt finish varnish) like a skulk or a gorge (gorge seems more proportional).
<b>Speakers</b>
Those OC speakers would seem a good idea, but possibly resin cast speaker casings to substitute the shape alltogether instead of trying to modify a existing speaker.
For the main unit/amplifier/subwoofer, you could theme it like a defence chamber or some other structure.
<b>Monitor</b>
Infested looking screen if a conventional CRT, or a TSA looking screen if flatpanel
<b>Wires and Cables</b>
Vines and infestation, or cable conduit. The cable conduit would be easier to texture because it can be bought premade. While the vines would have a organic randomness to it.
<b>Power Bar</b>
Yes, the power bar too, if it is a UPS and brick shaped, THAT could be made into a Turret Factory, I don't know for a regular bar though.
Either way, I want to see pictures once you get this stuff done...
Try to make a mousepad that looks like an Infantry Portal!
Something that makes the F4 button stand out from the other buttons.
A webcam shaped like a medpack!

Or is the plan to do it like by hive areas on maps where the infestation is growing over normal stuff...sort of a merging of the 2...?
