nahhh really... seriously...i just installed all three files and installed them but how do i get them to show up on the third party list...or why is it not showing up after i installed them.(i installed the 3.0beta1 mirror, the 4, and the 4a. why is it not working

Search your HDD for a folder called nsp.
if you have more than one you messed up. try again.
if you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.
If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.
*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers. Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

Probable problem: You installed it to the wrong dir (probably installed steam ore that once? even if you unistalleD)
ok well i put it into the steam/steamapps/email/halflife folder and it shows up in my third party folder,butttt, when i go to play i click on it, it loads up, and when the main menu pops up it is white with stripes, in the top of the screen there is a message saying "video is not avaliable,cannot find 'vids:divx'decompressor" and i have no clue why... and so i hit escape and it brings me to the regular menu. so... i go to a server and it starts to load and when it is almost done it says "diconnected. your .dll[dlls\client.dll] differs from the servers" i am over whemeled!!! what can i do? please help in anyway...

ok this is the steps that i took to try to get ns onto my steam.
first i downloaded the ns v3 b1 file.it is completly downloaded. i open it and install it to valve/steam/steamapps/email/halflife
after that i download the beta 4 patch.it downloads,completes and i open it. place it into the valve/steam/steamapps/email/halflife/nsp.
lastly i download the beta 4a, it completes, i open it and place it into the valve/steam/steamapps/email/halflife/nsp.

ok on your first post u said that some of the 4a patches had glitches, and u put that it is need to be put in some file... i didn,t understand what file it is needed to be put in. what was it called again.

I really admire the fact that you didn't flame on the 3rd post.
We really badly need a unified steam NS installer that doesn't require a 4 step process that's riddled with room for error. I figure if we had a real installer we'd have double the people playing NS because we loose quite a few people to these issues.

tman15, keep trying to get NS installed. it does work in steam if you follow Thansal's post to the letter.

Probable problem:
You installed it to the wrong dir (probably installed steam ore that once? even if you unistalleD)
just move the NSP folders to the steam dir.
and the divx thing is it trying to play the start up movie (wich was disabled after beta 1... aka, you don't have the patches installed)
You can fix that by getting the DivX codec from divx.xom (or googling klite codec pakage and installing thaT)

you sure you used all 3 files:
ns_install_v3_b1.exe
ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe

and you only found one nsp folderon your hdd when you searched?
by search I mean Start-->search for files or folders-->nsp
follow the install guide (including path names)
but ill just take ur word....
