Hm, how would I know what speed (of ram) my MOBO can handle? (I bought a **** dell and they didn't give me a good manual witht hat stuff) Also, if a computer is say, 2 years old, it should have DDR ram right? And (last question) How do I check if I have an AGP slot for a video card or not? Thanks!

    To find out if your computer has an AGP slot, look at the motherboard and find the brown slot. It's just above the PCI slots, those are coloured white. It's smaller and it's further back from the PCI slots. (It's usually coloured brown. Sometimes it's a different colour.)

    [EDIT] Compare these images to your RAM to figure out what kind it is: <a href='http://www.compgeeks.com/images/300x300/ram-512ddr2700ecc-n-unit.jpg' target='_blank'>DDR</a> and <a href='http://www.regstevens.co.uk/photos/sdram.jpg' target='_blank'>SDRAM</a>. Note how the connectors along the bottom are different.

    [EDIT2] Fixed. Thanks, Talesin.

    Have a quick look at the model number on your motherboard and Google it for more information if you're still stuck.

    Actually, not all DDR has the half-hole things on the end. The only way to really check is to look at the pin-notch on the bottom... DDR is over to one side a little compared to SDR.

    Kay Im pretty sure I have DDR (saw it somewhere on my computer a while ago, although I can't remember where) now how do I find out the speed of it?

    hopefully the stick of ram will have a sticker on it that says DDR266, PC2100, DDR333, PC2700 or DDR400, PC3200.

    if not, follow <b>:: Daedalus ::</b>'s suggestion.

    Get AIDA32, it provides all the information in a user friendly interface. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    But... it seems the official site has closed down...

    edit: here's a link with the latest version. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> <a href='http://www.soft32.com/download_9181.html' target='_blank'>http://www.soft32.com/download_9181.html</a>

    DDR has one notch near the center of the pin side.
    SDRam has two notches, one near the center one near the edge.
    RDRam has two notches near the center.
