Do you like strategy?
Do you like WWII?
Do you freaking hate the brain damaged "rush with a million of <i>these</i>" resource system that pervades most RTS today?
You want <a href='http://www.blitzkrieg.de/index.php?page=news.en.bh' target='_blank'>Blitzkrieg</a>.
Within seconds (literally, no foolin') of starting the first demo mission, I realized this was about ten times deeper and more realistic than any other game of any type I've ever played. It's not just looks, either, though animations are butter-smooth. The type and purpose of your units, their relative power, the way they move, everything is superbly crafted to make you feel like you're really an eye in the sky in 1942.
In each mission, you play either the Western Allies, the Germans, or the Soviets. You start with a base and some troops, and your mission, while ultimately to elminate your enemy, is broken down in to many different parts which you can do many different ways. Reconnaisance is a key aspect of the game, as is keeping supply lines open. Rather than mining resources like in most RTS, your base, and any towns, warehouses, or railways you capture on the way to your objective, give you an infinite stream of resources which must be distributed to your units in the form of ammo and reinforcements via supply trucks. Air support is another important element of strategy. You can call in spy planes, troop transports, light ground attack squadrons, and carpet bombers at regular intervals, and you can bat your opponent's stuff out of the air with interceptor squadrons.
All in all, it's very solid. I've only played the demo, and I still had more fun than with any other strategy game. If you have money, go buy the real thing and the expansion that's coming out tomorrow. For some reason, this game hasn't been as popular stateside as it is in Europe, and that's just a damn shame.

If you're in the WWII mood, another classic that way underrated is Commandos II... I have played and replayed that game many times and it just never loses value. (And it has a coop mode!)
[edit] Hmm, down to 10 minutes after a minute of downloading. Wee timewarp [/edit]
Can't find a download for the english demo that works...
Oh well..
Good game though.
The demo is a trio of tutorials made just for the purpose. You get one mission for each army. Don't think of this as "just three missions," though. I've only played the demo and I've already got all these wonderful things to say about it, so it has to be good.
It just has so many options... so many.
I know I've seen this. Is there a Blitzkrieg II out/coming out? I keep getting this confused for the C&C Generals mod (also pretty good looking) of the same name...
Goddamn, that's a good game, but you push it just a tad too much, dontcha think?
the battles in entente are amazing, once you figure out how to control your units and such, looong range artillery and explosions, its fun
1 - Groups stay in their positions relative to each other when ordering movement. This means that selecting a bunch of spread-out troops and giving them an order is useless, and results in far too much micromanagement.
2 - The formation button does not, in fact, do formations. It sets stances. If they want to include stances, that's great, but don't lie and call them formations. Lack of any real "Form up this way" command is dearly felt as well, especially in conjuntion with #1.
3 - Hideously unrealistic air support, that makes me cry. Planes flying around machine-gunning tanks to death and dropping bombs that are apparently for amusement only is not what I was hoping for. The bombers and the paradrop are interesting at least, but the ground assault planes and the recon flight that can't see anything half the time leave much to be desired.
4 - Retarded unit AI that demands constant babysitting. Troops decide that "stop" means "run toward the enemy and die because you didn't say Stand Ground (which, coincidentally, should be a stance)", tanks decide that driving <i>past</i> the enemy and then turning their weaker-armored sides or rear toward them is in fact the best course of action when given an attack command, etc.
5 - Hurling all of one's troops at an area (yes, this includes gun emplacements) does, in fact, work. I did it on the last mission, after the tanks referenced above managed to get themselves murdered.
That being said, the game has quite a few good elements, and an easy to use interface. It's just a shame that the mechanics are somewhat lacking.
