Hello !

The transparent minimap are available ! I do them with my little hand for my team (SdZ), but it's a good idea to give them to everyone, isn't it ?

First, Why download them ?
The answer, who may be obivious, is that it allows a better view on the screen, when we read the minimap. And because of the transparency, we show it often and during a long time, so we have a better look on the important information.
Besides, the transparency do not hide the view of the minimap : the "entities" (nodes, players, buildings...) stay opaque, the names too (I used the minimaps with names, but i have colorised the name in blue, and corrected some error...), and the sides of the passages. In fact, only the blue passage are transparent, et it allows a map easily "readable", when the screen is again viewable.
Moreover, the up left hand corner is too transparent. You'll see the skulks hidden there !

I've tested the minimaps, and if they don't make you some rambos capable to kill 5 skulks with 2 bullets of gun, they will make you have a better look of the game.

Some screens?
Naturally !
Important : they don't give the real aspect "in game", because the quality is not really good (compression to 30 % in jpg) and the picture is reduced to half.

How to install them ?
Download them here. Name : minimaps_trans_100.rar
Then, unzip all in your folder : steam/your_mail@thing.com/Half-Life/nsp/sprites/minimaps.
Warning ! Copy the old minimaps before...

Some informations
I would thank a8085 for the idea. I waited for the other transparent minimaps, but I never saw them, so I made them myself !

All the maps NS have been worked, EXCEPT :
-lost, which has bugs and will soon be changed

for any bug (I didn't have all tested), suggest (other colour for the place's names), or probleme (during the installation), please answer on this topic or mail me

You can freely give these sprites.

It's all !

    Nice.
Could you send me a list of the locations that had miss spellings so that I can fix them on the next release?

    in mind I have :
    "Furnace" from "Furnace" on origin
"Satellite" from "Satelite" on tanith (except if it's the good spelling in english...)

And some hives have a very long name. In game we can't read the entire name. By ex "Pipeline" from "The Pipeline" seems better for me
I know there are the real name, like in the game, but on the minimap there must be the minimum to be precise and readable.

(if you don't understand my english i can make some effort...)

I had the old non-transparent ones, but they hadn't been updated in a while, and, well, weren't transparent. Unfortunately now I don't have an excuse for getting owned, since I can see the marine coming...

one of my friends who is an avid CAL fella was wondering if this works with mp_consistency on? anyone know? i'm thinking it's fine, since it's not a model?
  • Pollux568Pollux568 Join Date: 2004-01-07 Member: 25122Members
I never seen any difference with the consistency.
In fact the transparency is made from a chequer-work (? I find this in dictionary) of transparent pixels, on opaque pixels. It's like the transparence around the opaque minimaps.
I'll add ns_lost when it doesn't has the Big Bug...
