I tried with little success...
Am I doing something wrong? I swapped to the blink weapon number and pressed attack, but all I seem to do is stand there and wave my claws around.

What buttons am I supposed to be hittin?

Start running and look at where you wanna go, then.. jump, look up(slightly) and click. *poof*

Takes some practice and you have to avoid getting stuck, but you'll get the hang of it.

Blink is a -catapult- not a teleport. Which means you have to look up, or else you're trying to blink through the floor. Even the tiniest bit of looking down will make it not work. It works best in open rooms, and not hallways.

Can you provide a link to where it says they can teleport -through- walls?

The so called "blink" ability is one of the more contentious topics for scientists studying the Kharaa. One side believes that it is our observations that are incorrect, that there is an optical illusion of some sort at work, making Fades appear to teleport, apparently through solid matter. They believe that, at the most, entirely new bodies are created at the destination – a kind of variant of the redemption evolution. The other side believes that there is a phenomena similar to Frontiersmen phase gate technology at work … some organic, highly evolved ability that exploits the loophole in physics called the Kensky/Libovah effect. There are significant weak points in both arguments. But this phenomena undoubtedly exists: footage exists of Fades disappearing from one side of a wall, and appearing on the other, or instantly covering the space between them and their target.

aye, I used to be able to blink through the big elevator on bast but can't anymore. I think perhaps through-entity blinking was removed. blinking through world polygons was removed quite some time ago, cause it never really worked well. Was funny when a fade blinked into the readyroom though ^_^

maybe it meant through boxes or objects in the room? maybe. Like where someone said it was kind of like "a catapult" you launch it and wherever the invisible ball would have landed, thats where you end up. so if you shoot it OVER a box... you will end up on the other side of the box? I tend to stay away from fades... but it would make sense with all the information i have gathered from what you guys posted here.

    correct me if im wrong...

/me wishes he had talked to Molec about blink before writing that section!

Molec is right folks, and the manual is wrong. Thanks for the catch. I blame the fact that blink was never explained to -me- with Molec's cool catapult analogy, and I've just now started to master the ability. If you all notice any other seeming inconsistencies, bring them up! Blink did indeed once let you blink through walls, etc ... but it was wisely changed. Look for an edit to the manual sometime soon. Sorry if anyone wasted time waving their arms at the walls. You could have been practicing your blink/swipe instead!

What's the point of blink then, other than running away really fast and getting shot with your back turned?

It can be used in battle to move behind an enemy if you're very skilled, or you can move through an enemy forward base quickly, or even get in position behind a structure in the base to use it as a shield while you whack away at whatever's in front of you. you can also use it to climb ladders quickly, decend from heights safely, or work your way up/in to a hiding place. probably the most underrated ability after parasite.
