Like the title says, what does the focus do, whats it for? And howthee hell do you gain lvls everyone here is talking about?? I gain no lvls or anything when plaing NS
are u playing ns_ or co_ maps, u only gain xp co_ maps u gain resources in ns_ maps
Focus is the ability to increase the damage ur slot1 weapon does by slowing down ur attacks. You evolve this trait the same way in both styles of ns but in co_ when evolved u will be level 3 straight away (which i think does dbl regular damage) in ns_ its depending on how many sesory chambers u have (additionally u in ns_ u must have at least 1 sensory chamber to evolve this trait)

read the official manual, bst way to understand ns: <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual_version_2/Natural_Selection_Manual_Framed.html' target='_blank'>how to play</a>
This is really a question for the New Player Forum (and I suspect it will be moved there shortly).
Anyway, the "focus" skill increases the amount of damage you can do when attacking, but slows down your attack rate. A skulk with focus can instantly kill any marine until they start getting armour.
The idea is that you're taking your time when attacking to focus on getting a really good bite.
The disadvantage of it is that because it slows down your attack rate, you actually do less damage over the same amount of time (e.g. if you're attacking a structure, you will destroy it faster without focus).
Levels only apply in combat games. As you kill enemies you get more experience points. After you get so many points, you go up a level and are able to spend the points on upgrades.
I downloaded a map from the net: co_loathing.bsp, but I couldnt save its minimap to the minimaps folder, why is that so. And it would be great, if id just know how to focus.....
On standard ns_ maps you need the (unpopular) sensory chamber, then select the upgrade Sensory -> Focus. On Co maps, you use the menu in the same way, except you just need 2 level-points for it, and no sensory chambers (since they can't be built in co_).
To use it once you have it, just bite your target. Its automatic, and can't be turned on or off.
Well...for one thing...I cant learn focus, because only things I can learn under sensory upgrades are Scent of Fear, Cloaking and Pheormones....I see no Focus...

focus doubles the damage your first attack does, but also doubles the time it takes. this is only for aliens.
