Fours hours playing a game that kicks **obscenity**, with different folks cycling in and out as commander and teams taking land and losing land (land=noozles).
Gosh. What torture.
Seriously though, I haven't been on a server YET where the match has lasted less than 20-30 minutes. This may be due to the fact that folks are ALL newbies to this game and it's play mechanics, but I doubt it. This is the standard and these maps are HUGE! So, I wouldn't be too suprised if in CLAN matches folks are told that they will play one side and then the other. In games like these, you need to have two matches simply because each side is so different.
There should be a score calcultor for each round, possibly a time calculator based on how long it took to win, and the score from both rounds is used to determine the winner. You ARE right though, the games would take long, but with CLAN play I doubt it would take 2 hours simply because CLANS would FOLLOW the commanders orders and know EXACTLY what to do, or they would play as a pack in the case of ALIENS. The reason it takes so long now is because everyone is new to the game, and not as sure about the controls. I could easily see having TWO days of play (if some folks dont want to wait for the full game to end), and like I said calculating that score from two rounds of play.
So, to answer your question about clan. Play two rounds, with both teams switching after each round. The winner of both rounds obviously is the better player. If there is a tie, then some calculator for deaths, time taken to win, etc. used to calculate the winner in a tie.
saying that games take a long time to win. i was playing not so long ago and the aliens won in about 1 min coz humans were **obscenity** around

So if you have two equally matched teams and the balance gets just right, could be a stalemate! Then I guess some sort of reasonable time limit and scoring system might need to be in place.

Yea. Well the 30 minute to an hour thing really is for those people who are actually PLAYING. If MARINES or ALIENS are d icking around, then yes - the game will be over very swiftly.
Question though - cause ive never been on a server where the ALIENS won - what are the conditions of defeat for the MARINES. Can the comm station be attacked? Is that it. The death of the COMMANDER.

When you destroy the command console, the commander is auto-ejected and...usually dies before he can make his last stand.

Yea that's what I mean. Both teams are SO vastly different that there is no way it WOULD be fair to put one team as one thing and the other as the other. This isnt like MEDAL OF HONOR, or COUNTER STRIKE where both sides are basically two sides of the same coin. So UNLESS there was a specific MARINE CLAN or a specific ALIEN clan and they played together, you would DEFINATELY need to play at least two games. That way (and it would more than likely happen like this 9 times out of 10), when there is a 1-1 score, game percentages would be taken into affect, such as time limit, kills, death, ammo spawned, health spawned - things like that and a composite score given at the end. This way gameplay and strategy (since this IS a gameplay and strategy game) would be rewared.
Clan matchplay tends to work better because people know each other, and they have strategy. Yes, there's strategy involved in this game But when you go pubbing, not everyone listens to strategy. They go off and get hurt and ask for a heal. And you say no. And then the flames arise. Clans work together MUCH better, but I still don't see 30 minute matches being done unless the other team sucks or does something surprising. None of my matches have lasted 30 minutes.
So the spawn points have to be destroyed. Not sure I understand. I mean there are no "conditions of defeat" screens that popup when you start the server which is DEFINATELY somethign that I think should be added if anyone is paying attention.
Destroy the marine spawn portal(s). When reinforcements can't get through, they are dead. Either way, all marines have to die without a spawn point left.
no spawn points for either teams (portal/hive) than you just clear out the remaining players.
I have been in games that the aliens have won in less than 5 minutes.
Rush their cc, destroy it. If the commander is too stupid to lay another one down elsewhere they auto lose. There is no way they can win without a cc unless you leave your hive undefended and you dont take out their spawn portal. where they can just rush your hive and kill it. Take out the cc and the portal and the aliens win.
You could play 2 halves, one as each side, with a 30 min time limit, the scores from each half could then be added, and highest wins. Doesn't seem like a good system though, just a workable one.
We need to remember though, that this game is very new. So if you have folks who KNOW what they are doing, they are going to rush that MARINE BASE, and bite the hell out of the MARINES and destroy there spawn points. As soon as folks get used to this place, I can easily see games not being so one-sided.

We're far far into the game, aliens weere suciding us and Onos' were changing in. We had 1 resource tower, around F**KING LOADS of turrets and 3 resource points to spend. I managed (in about 45 mins), with amazing playing on the marines side, to push the aliens back and get 2 resource towers. 1 alien somehow found its way into my base and without any1 noticing he took out the command pod. Since it was my first time i didnt know that could happen so i hadnt built any backups (nor had the commander before me). So we just kept storming out of the right hand door and pushed them back and manged to destroy 1 of their hives. But since we forgot about the left side the aliens were very nearly into our base. Lots of fighting and eventually the marines did lose. HOWEVER it took the aliens 2 and half hours AFTER destroying the command pod to take all of our spawn points out. [NOTE:]It was the second day after NS was released, so it probably wouldnt happen again
So far, Evolutionarily Challenged, the first NS clan, have played two matches. The way we played, which was according to the standard ClanFission rules, we did best two out of three matches, 8 vs 8. The clan who was challenged gets to pick the map or the team they start as, and the challenging team gets to choose what the challenged team didn't choose. (IE if EGC challenged EC, we could pick ns_bast, and would then pick the alien team) We then play the first round, and when it is complete, the clans switch sides, and play a second round. In the event that each team won one of the two rounds, a third match is played, with the same teams as the first round. This round is the tiebreaking round, although in most cases, as many clans do not specialize, the same clan wins both rounds, and thus the match.

so how will clan matches work...4 hours matches..i dunno how many ppl could stand it.

I'm not sure, but if one guy is still REIN then that team hasn't lost yet. All players have to have DEAD after their name.
