<a href='http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X%20Deluxe&langs=09' target='_blank'>http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X%20Deluxe&langs=09</a>

what is the best proccesor can it take and what kind of memory? PC3200?
I'm looking to upgrade my proccesor and maybe my memory as well. have a Athlon XP 2000+ (1.7ghz) and 1024MB memory. what you guys think? I plan on purchasing the ATI X800 XT videocard. I want my computer to run games in the best fastest most eye candy way.

    If im not mistaken the specification states everything that motherboard can handly.

    so 2.1ghz is the best? I'm better off buying a new motherboard and proccesor, guess I'll pickup a 3.08 or 3.2 intep P4, whats the diffrence between the regular and the P4 Prescott?

    Fastest and most eye candy? Kick up to an Ath64 3400+ (or FX-57), on an ASUS K8V with 3GB of PC4000 DDR, and an x800 XTPE. It'll run you just under a grand for the whole shebang, if you go for 512 of PC3200, or over three grand with the gig-DIMMs. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Don't forget to set up a striped RAID array with a parity disk for optimal speed... one thing I forgot to do with my rig, and suffer for with slow disk access compared to the rest of the machine. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Like Talesin mentioned, go for a Athlon64, lots of ram and a nice SATA raid system.
    That will kick you from BIOS to windows in a microsecond <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

    Who said anything about SATA? Far as I'm concerned it's an overpriced gimmick. Though the K8V comes with SATA-RAID and IDE-RAID. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It's not a gimick, it is faster that is a fact <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
    And after years of those prehistoric, huge, verry sensitive spawn-of-the-devil IDE cables i am glad that the human kind made a step forward by making SATA <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

    P.S. I know there are rounded cables for IDE but that is just a mask <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Take a closer look at the spec. The actual SATA overhead pretty much eats up that 'faster'. It's like how marketroids can advertise a HDD as being 200GB, when you don't actually get 200 gigabytes of storage. It's a gimmick.

    WOAH!! sounds very expencieve!! are you sure that will only cost under $1000? where do you buy the stuff from? If that will only run me up to under 1grand then I'm so gonna do it!!!!!! guy I know has similar system, cost him close to 3grand for the whole system.

    SATA RAID Is 40% faster at reading and 25% faster at writing as a single SATA HD.
    IDE Raids are much slower.
    I can scan the pic from a hardware magazine if you want.

    Well in my opinion, it all depends on if you want to future proof atall <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> Sure the Athlon 64 will kick butt, but as AMD will be changing sockets you won't really be able to upgrade. Same goes for intel.

    Personally, I would pick up a athlon 3000 or 3200 cheap and get nvidiva/ati's latest and greatest. However if you have money to burn and don't particularly care about future proofing, go for the a64 and a get a nice RAID set up. Then next year or so splash out next year when all the new technologies will be mainstream <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I agree, buy a nice XP 2600+ (which you can overclock to 3200+) (and always upgrade later, The 64 FX I have seen for the net sum of 850 dollars)

    Apart from e-wang extension/having won the lottery/being plain sad...

    WHAT THE HELL FOR?

    There's absolutely zero there that 'needs' upgrading, and everything you're considering buying will nosedive in price before it becomes vaguely useful.

    I already have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ pro which is 1.7ghz and if I bother getting a 2600+ or 3200+ all I will get is an extra 300 - 400mhz which isnt worth it for what I'll be paying.

    From what I have read, the number the Athlons do carry indicate the "work" they do, that means, an Athlon 2100+ will, even though it technically has only 1.7GHz, do as good as a Pentium with 2100 MHz. Athlons do more "work" per cycle. If you would get an Athlon 3200+, that would boost your speed up by 1100 MHz.

    Also, that page lists all the restrictions your motherboard has, I dont know why you ask again... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    it wasnt very clear <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> or was too tired when making the post. best athlon i can put in is a 3000+ so your telling me its as good as a Pentium 4 3.0ghz ?

    Technically, the Pentium 3.0 GHz is a little better than the AMD XP 3000+, but the price difference is ridiculous for the most part.
    I picked up a Athlon64 3000+ w/ the Asus K8V and I love it, and it wasn't too expensive. But mind you, this was upgrading from my old Slot A Athlon 850 Mhz.
    But if I were you, I'd just go w/ the Athlon XP 3000+, or 3200+. And get a stick of DDR400. Any large computer upgrade (going to a new chipset) would be a waste of money in my opinion.

    The numbering scheme for the athlon-64 has been updated, a 3200+ athlon-64 will be better than an athlon-xp 3200+.

    How about getting a board with dual PCI-E slots and go for SLI with 2 6800?
