Is there a button? Or do you have to slide it all over the marines like an RTS, but if the marines are all over the map... that is almost impossible to do. If there was a quick command to do it, say like in I. Explorer. CTRL A does it, then life as commander would be so much easier.
If you read my 2nd post you would understand why I said that the click and drag technique is a terrible way to choose all the marines due to the fact they can BE ALL AROUND THE MAP.
Is there no way at all to select all the marines quickly? If there isn't, there realy should be.
A good commander will know who his best soldiers are. If he is able to click a name or a few names from a list (say from like a popup box or the bottom middle area of the screen) rather than having to look for them would be really effective in issuing commands more efficiently. With this new patch coming out, having an efficient commander will be even more crucial than it is now.

This is easy to put in and often-requested, so I'm sure you'll see it in the near future. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--><!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> great news flay!!
This should probably move over to the Suggestions forum, but what I'd really like to see is a team system like every other RTS has.
Select 3 marines, press CTRL-1. Bang, pressing 1 selects the 3 members of Team 1. Select 2 more marines, press CTRL-2. Now you have 2 teams you can give orders to very quickly.
I like that ctrl idea. For squads. But I would think I would need something on my mini map then to note where my squads are. I am sure most of the time I know but....there are some big bloody maps and my men move fast at times so.
It would be end game when I need to dump a waypoint for all my marines at the last alien spawn when a select all command would be really helpful
Well for one, I don't think the CTRL-# thing is gonna work with HL, since it only accepts 1 key for an action. Not too much of a prob though... you can have like one key set to make any marines selected into that group.
You don't use the 1-0 keys for anything in commander mode though, so you could use those keys for team assignments. You wouldn't have to hit CTRL+3, just hit 3 (like Starcraft) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well even if you group, your teammates will not be aware they are in a squad and they will just wander off to seperate duties so that when you tell the squad to do something it will be pointless. Perhaps teammates which are in the same squad could be highlighted or something, so as a teammate you know you are in a squad and should stick with people that are highlighted. Or maybe numbers on top of the teammates heads? some sort of indicator. don't know how hard that would be.

I know that the HL engine can do glows like that, but I'd imagine that the problem would be making it just show up for marines only.
And would it be at all possible to see who you have selected, and print their names on the bottom of the screen? Possibly with a slider bar that shows, maybe, ammo and health? And maybe you can click their names and center your view on that marine?

the commander mode takes some getting used to, however, that's why I have to keep looking for the green dots <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
